Rittman High School (Ohio) junior Nick Andre was kicked off the football team and suspended from school for four days after reading his poem aloud in English class.
The assignment was to write something that made the student angry. So, for the sake of the assignment, Andrew read his poem entitled "Stupid," which vented his frustrations about Rittman's 1-7 football team.
As FoxSportsOhio.com notes, Andre's poem partly references Rittman coach Bill Dennis and his son Blake, a senior wide receiver, who is committed to Akron.
Here is the aforementioned poem:
Losing season,Favoritism,Non stop passes from best friend to best friend,Continuously doing what doesn't work,The inability to separate being a father and a coach,Dropped passes,But yet still the "super star",Yeah right.Where's my scholarship?I can drop passes,Run backwards,Miss tackles,And be afraid to take a hit. That’s top of the line Div. 1 material right there. If that’s what they wanted,They definitely got it.This whole town will be glad when he’s gone. For anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying,AKRON’S SCREWED!
Rittman principal Nick Evans decided to punish Andre after deeming the poem as "mean and disrespectful about another student and our head coach."
So, what do you think? Was Andre's poem out of line?
