The Orioles will be making a few roster adjustments to kick off the second half of the regular season. Outfielder/designated hitter Nolan Reimold is expected to be placed on the disabled list in the near future, according to Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun. Encina notes that Reimold’s pending DL stint doesn’t have to do with his lingering hamstring injury that placed him on the shelf for an extended stretch earlier this season. Instead, he says the roster move will be a result of a reoccurrence of last year’s neck pain that held Reimold out of all but 16 games. It’s been a tough past few seasons for Reimold, and considering this initial word and diagnosis it doesn’t look like 2013 will be much better. He came up as a promising prospect and did well in his debut in 2009. He’s had several opportunities to cement himself as the team’s regular left fielder, but he’s been unable to do so as a result of injury and inconsistency. Nate McLouth has since taken over for the team in left field, and Reimold is now at risk of losing his bench spot as an outfielder and DH. Baltimore is expected to replace Reimold on the roster with infielder Danny Valencia, but Henry Urrutia is also expected to be added to the roster as the regular season resumes. Urrutia, 26, is likely to get an extensive look at DH after hitting a combined .365/.427/.531 with 20 doubles and seven home runs between Double- and Triple-A this season. To make room for Urrutia, the O’s are expected to make another roster move. This could come in the form of placing outfielder Chris Dickerson – who’s been dealing with a shoulder injury – on the DL. Five MLB prospects who will an impact in the second half

Last season, we saw the Baltimore Orioles call up Manny Machado in August. The top prospect, despite not playing his natural position at shortstop, helped key their playoff run and has joined right up with the rest of the league's top young talent. This season, we're all wondering who could be this year's Machado. That top prospect that will be called up in the second...

Baltimore Orioles First Half Review (Pitching)

If the Baltimore Orioles are unable to win the AL East or grab one of the two Wild Card berths, it will likely fall at the feet or more appropriately the arms of their pitchers. The Orioles rank in the bottom of the majors in almost every major pitching statistical category. They are 28th in ERA at 4.39, 26th in opponents batting average, 20th in quality starts, and 21st in WHIP...

Move from Texas to Baltimore big for Chris Davis

The change of scenery was good for Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, the Texas native who came up through the Rangers organization. Nearly two years after being traded, Davis was back in Texas fresh off his first All-Star game and leading the majors with 37 home runs. Before Friday night's series opener, Davis says it was nice to get away from a place where he was...

Could Chris Davis Match Roger Maris?

Chris Davis, with 37 home runs so far this season, has been generating a lot of buzz lately — both on the field and more recently with some comments he made during the All-Star break. When he was asked about the all-time home run record, Davis said: “In my opinion, 61 is the record, and I think most fans agree with me on that.” I have no idea if most fans agree with him, but...

Baltimore Orioles' outfielder Nolan Reimold, who has played in only 56 games since injuring his neck diving into the stands at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago last April, will have season-ending corrective neck surgery on Tuesday. As reported by Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com, "Reimold, cleared in January to resume baseball activities following last June's spinal...

Power-happy Orioles depend on pitching in 2nd half

Chris Davis and the Baltimore Orioles were a huge hit before the All-Star break. Davis mashed a major-league leading 37 homers, and the Orioles sent the ball over the fence 132 times - 17 more than any other team. Thanks heavily to an offense that ranked third in the majors in scoring, the Orioles hit the break with a 53-43 record and very much in contention to reach the postseason...

Ex-Rangers making notable contributions for Orioles

ARLINGTON, Texas --- When people think of the Baltimore Orioles these days, they think of the Birds' power-hitting first baseman Chris Davis, who heading into Saturday's second of three games in Texas was hitting .311 with 37 HR, 93 RBI and an OPS of 1.097. Of course, since Davis was an American League All-Star and one of the big stories in the Junior Circuit in the first...

Henry Urrutia Promoted to the Majors

I've been waiting for this day to come, and now it is here. The Orioles have gone ahead and promoted Henry Urrutia from Triple-A Norfolk. The team has needed help at the designated hitter spot all season, and perhaps Urrutia could be a solution. Maybe the Orioles will hit gold with another prospect promoted in the second half. Roch Kubatko from MASN Sports reported...

The Orioles picked up just where they left off.
