For the first time this season, the Orioles have won five straight. And, for one of the seemingly few times this year, they won easily. The Orioles had 18 hits equaling a season high, including three from Henry Urrutia, J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis as they romped over the Kansas City Royals 9-2 at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night. Five Orioles, Nate McLouth, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters each had two hits. Baltimore (57-43) moved to a season-high 14 games over .500. Last season, the Orioles didn’t reach 14 games over until Aug. 28. The Orioles scored twice in the first and twice more in the third off Wade Davis (4-9). Davis allowed four runs, two of them earned on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. Urrutia, who had three hits in his first three at-bats, had his second career RBI in the fourth inning. Hardy and Davis each drove in three runs. Two of Hardy’s came on his 17th home run, which keyed a four-run sixth inning that gave the Orioles a 9-2 lead. Davis’ double in the sixth drove in two more Scott Feldman (2-1) pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three. It was the Orioles’ eighth quality start in nine games. Feldman was the second consecutive Oriole pitcher to complete eight games. Kansas City (45-51) scored single runs in the third and fourth. The Royals did not have a baserunner in the last four innings.
