Andrew Cashner threw six solid innings and hit his first career home run to help lead the San Diego Padres to a 12-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night. Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley added back-to-back home runs, Yonder Alonso drove in four runs and Carlos Quentin had three RBIs for the Padres, who have won two of their last three and four of six. Cashner (7-5) allowed three runs on four hits, walked five and struck out five for his second straight win, both coming during a 10-game road trip. Paul Goldschmidt and Miguel Montero homered for the Diamondbacks, who had their brief, two-game winning streak snapped. San Diego managed only three hits off Arizona starter Tyler Skaggs (2-3), but took advantage of the rookie left-hander's lack of control to open an 8-1 lead after four innings. With the game tied 1-1, Skaggs retired the first two batters he faced in the third. But he walked Denorfia, hit Headley with a pitch, walked Quentin to load the bases an...

Luke Gregerson garnering a lot of interest

It doesn't look like Luke Gregerson will be a member of the San Diego Padres after the deadline. As the trade deadline approaches, teams are becoming more and more interested in the 29-year old right-hander. According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Phillies and Padres have "talked a lot" about a deal that would send Gregerson and an outfielder to the Phillies for...

San Diego, Our Polis

One of the topics I remember former Padres CEO Tom Garfinkel talk about most was the importance of fans having a good ballpark experience on days our Padres don’t win. This goal became evident in, among other improvements, the restaurants and events he and his team brought to the ballpark. But there’s another less discussed, at least less discussed by team by team executives...

Padres' Roundup: Kyle Blanks setback; Cory Luebke & Joe Wieland done

Padres' first baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list this Saturday, but according to Corey Brock of MLB.com, he will not. And to add to San Diego's woes, relievers Cory Luebke and Joe Wieland probably won’t pitch for the Padres during the 2013 season also according to Corey Brock of MLB.com. Blanks, 26, who landed on the DL...

Padres rumors: San Diego focused on trading relievers

While the San Diego Padres are among the teams not expected to make a significant trade between now and Wednesday's deadline, they are focused on dealing relievers, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. #Padres big-picture ideas haven't materialized. Focus now more on bullpen pieces (Gregerson & Thatcher, to name two). — Jerry Crasnick (@jcrasnick) July 29, 2013...

Hanging-tight D-backs host fading Padres

Some have suggested over the past few days that the Diamondbacks are slipping. But though they lost their hold on first place to the Dodgers -- at the hands of the Cubs, no less -- the D-backs enter the weekend just a half-game back in the NL West. The visiting Padres have slipped even more. At the start of the month, they were in fourth place, just 5 12 games back of the D-backs...

While You Were Drinking: Game 105 (SD vs AZ)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. Andrew Cashner brought out the snake skinning knives, as the Padres whacked the Diamondbacks 12-3. Cashner went 6 innings with 5 K’s. The Diamondbacks’ starter, Tyler Skaggs, pitched more like Ricky Skaggs, lasting only 3 2/3 innings...

While You Were Drinking: Game 104 (SD vs AZ)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night drinking at the pub.  Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. The Padres made the trip from Milwaukee after winning 3 of 4 on the road and watching the bats heat up probably feeling pretty good about themselves. That came to a crushing halt Friday night in Phoenix, where Eric Stults had...

Diamondbacks steamroll Padres behind Randall Delgado

Maybe, finally, this team has found it. It’s seemed several times this week that the Diamondbacks may be headed toward a breakthrough and it was obvious that something went right in a convincing 10-0 win over San Diego Friday night. They looked phenomenal on both sides of the ball with no individual performance stronger than Randall Delgado’s complete game shutout, the first of his career.

Padres 1, Diamondbacks 0

Tyson Ross outpitched All-Star Patrick Corbin with eight dominant innings and the San Diego Padres closed out their first winning road trip of the season with a 1-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Carlos Quentin had a run-scoring single in the first inning off Corbin (12-2) and Ross (2-4) took it from there, allowing three hits and striking out seven in the combined...

Offense sputters as D-Backs lose finale to Padres

You know your offense has issues when your pitching allows only one run and you still manage to lose. That’s exactly what happen this afternoon at Chase Field.

Padres' Gregerson, Brewers' Axford drawing interest on bullpen market

Teams involved in the trade market for relievers say Padres right-hander Luke Gregerson may be the best available remaining reliever and could be the next one traded. The number of teams looking for bullpen help has shrunk slightly with the Phillies no longer in buy mode. The number of relievers on the market being discussed may be growing but not to the extent that prices have...

Five Good Things: Snake Stomping Edition

Crazy busy day today bat the ol’ J-O-B but I wanted to touch base with you all, albeit quickly. So long story short, here’s my five good things from the former” house of horrors” and now current ‘home sweet, home”, Chase Field.   5.
