There's been talk that San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley is likely to be traded prior to the July 31st trade deadline. While several teams figure to be interested in the slugger, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes Headley would be "perfect" for the Chicago Cubs. Rosenthal believes Headley would offer the Cubs a significant boost, joining other young and talented infielders such as Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo. Chicago also has what Rosenthal terms as three elite prospects in the pipeline -- shortstop Javier Baez and outfielders Albert Amora and Jorge Soler. There are of course several things standing in the way of a potential trade. Chicago would likely have to dip into that pool of top talent to acquire Headley, and it's not clear how willing they are to part with prospects as they continue to rebuild. While their offense has performed worse so far this season, Chicago also faces an issue when it comes to starting pitching. Travis Wood, Carlos Villanueva and Jeff Samardzija have been solid so far this season, but Scott Feldman is a pending free agent and Edwin Jackson's been a train wreck so far. The team's minor league system isn't budding with top young arms, and for this reason, if they are willing to deal coveted prospects it might be for a starter instead.
