Quinn Cook is having one of the better seasons in Duke Basketball point guard history, which is a huge statement to make considering some of the players to have come before him. If the season were to stop today, Cook would be in the record books as the 8th-most prolific passer at Duke with 6.2 assists per game. The only seasons in front of him are four of Bobby Hurley’s, one of Dick Groat’s, one of Jason Williams’ and one of Chris Duhon’s. That’s illustrious company considering that three of those guys have their jerseys retired (at least until next year). At that pace, with Duke having ten more games in the regular season, Cook will end up with 192 assists before entering postseason play. Barring a complete collapse, Duke will play no more than three games in the ACC Tournament, but could play less. If they play two, you can add on another 12 assists for 204, if they play three, 211. Duke is guaranteed to play at least one game in the NCAA Tournament which would put his totals at ...

Duke fans accused of chanting ‘How’s your grandma’ at Tyler Lewis, whose grandmother passed away (Video)

The Cameron Crazies have been known to cross the line in various ways during Duke basketball games, but nobody wants to believe they would chant what some of them are being accused of having chanted on Thursday night. NC State freshman guard Tyler Lewis lost his grandmother last Friday. He was reportedly close with her and has been taking it hard, and some people are accusing Duke...

1980 letter from Coach K to Michael Jordan

When Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski was informed that Michael Jordan (sorry, Mike Jordan) had chosen not to attend Duke, he wrote the following letter to him. As we know, MJ chose to go to school up the road at North Carolina. And as they say, the rest is history. Coach K eventually graduated from using a typewriter to a word processor on a computer (gasp!)…and became a pretty...

Coach K’s letter to Michael Jordan after finding out he wasn’t going to Duke

Duke’s head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his 900+ wins is one of the classiest in the biz. After finding out Michael Jordan, a guard living in Wilmington North Carolina, wasn’t going to Duke, Coach K wrote the above letter.I’m guessing his tone may have been a little different had he known MJ decided on a school just 15 miles down the road from Durham.HT: Darren Rovell

#4 Duke 98 NC State 85 Highlights

Duke had a chance to make a serious statement in the national title picture with a win over NC State last night. And what a statement they made. Their most productive offensive half of the season came in the first twenty minutes last night as they put up 54 points on 61% shooting from the field. It was a full team effort, with Mason Plumlee putting up 30 points, Seth Curry 26 and...

Mike Krzyzewski Wrote Michael Jordan, Called Him ‘A Fine Young Man’ After Jordan Turned Down Duke for UNC (Photo)

With college recruitment and signing days becoming as televised and talked-about as games themselves, it’s hard to remember a time when picking a school was a much less formal process. A letter between Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and former recruit Michael Jordan (who ended up playing for rival North Carolina, of course) shows just how different it used to be. Krzyzewski was among...

Josh Hairston “doubtful” for Thursday night’s game against NC State

As if Duke’s frontcourt wasn’t thin enough with Ryan Kelly out indefinitely, Josh Hairston has been declared doubtful for a huge game on Thursday against NC State that will go a long way in determining the ACC race and Duke’s potential seeding in the NCAA Tournament. In an injury I can’t recall ever seeing keeping a player out of action, Hairston has been diagnosed with an...

Mike Krzyzewski’s Letter to Michael Jordan After He Chose UNC over Duke (Photo)

I am going to assume this is a form letter that Coach K sent out to all the recruits who chose a different school than Duke. Probably an assistant hands him a stack, he signs them and they mail them all out. I bet there are 1000s of former college basketball players who are reading this now and saying to themselves. “Wait…I thought I was the only one who got a personalized letter...

#4 Duke 98 NC State 85 press conference and interviews

Duke exacted revenge on NC State last night, holding off a rally by the Wolfpack late in the second half to put up their highest point total on the year of 98 points, and topped their previous ACC-best of 80 points against Wake Forest by 18. They also recorded their highest offensive efficiency of the season, scoring 1.4 points per possession. This is the third out of the past four...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – Beat NC State Edition

Duke’s first loss of the year came at the hands of NC State on January 12th. It was also the team’s first game without Ryan Kelly. Two games after that was Duke’s worst of the season as they suffered a demoralizing defeat at the hands of the now Top 10 Miami Hurricanes. Since then though, the Blue Devils seemed to have righted the ship while NC State has lost four of its last...

Duke Morning F.I.S.T. – February 6 Edition

Before yesterday, the biggest injury news ramping up to Duke’s battle with NC State on Thursday was whether or not Lorenzo Brown would be healthy enough to play. Then came the news that Josh Hairston is struggling with an arm infection after getting cut during the Wake Forest game. With Ryan Kelly already out, Duke’s frontcourt is perilously thin heading into a matchup against...

Duke looks to exact revenge on NC State tonight at 9PM

By Ray Horn – Duke is coming off their most impressive performance in ACC play, a 79-60 win at Florida State.  The Blue Devils shot the ball extremely well and the defense was suffocating for most of the game.  Now comes the NC State Wolfpack.  Just to refresh you on what the Wolfpack do as a team they are terrific offensively, especially in transition.  Their weakness is on...

Duke shoots lights out, holds on late over NC State

The much billed rematch looked more like a mismatch at least for three quarters of the game, before NC State used a sizzling second half shooting performance to make it a much closer contest. Mason Plumlee scored 30 points as Duke got revenge on NC State. In the end the Blue Devils held on to win 98-85 and get a level of revenge after the first meeting resulted in the Blue Devils’...
