Oh Paulo Filho, you crazy man.
In life there are no certainties. Only life, death, and Paulo Filho pulling out of fights. The former WEC middleweight champ and Pride badass continues on his descent toward rock bottom. No I’m not talking about his face tattoo, and no I’m not talking about his ongoing battle with drugs. No sir, Filho keeps the ball a tumbling, this time by pulling out of his “Super Fight” with Hector Lombard at Bellator 18. If you’re keeping track at home that’s only like the 100th time Filho has pulled out of a fight. That guy has pulled out more than a Catholic using the rhythmic method. Wait, what?
For those unfamiliar with Filho, the guy was ridiculously good back in the day. I mean, the guy is 18-1 in his career. With his only loss coming to Chael Sonnen. And not to take anything away from Sonnen, but by that point Filho’s downward spiral had already begun. Ongoing drug issues and a developing knack for sh-tty tattoos and Filho was already becoming a shell of his former self.
So it looks like Bellator will not get their “super fight.” However, the bronze lining in all this is that Jay Silva will take Filho’s place against Lombard. So the fight has gone from a “super fight” to snuff film. I’m not saying that Silva can’t win. Who am I kidding? Silva has no f’n chance of beating Hector Lombard. That guy is a ginormous beast…
