Pepperdine’s baseball team is sporting new uniforms this season that make them look like the old school Houston Astros. They’re getting fantastic reviews except for the UA logo square in the middle that Uni Watch aptly calls “a major turd in the punch bowl.” Except for the logo, I can dig ‘em. Let’s just hope Pamela approves.

Astros open camp on positive note
It's appropriate Disney World is located only a short distance from where the Houston Astros officially opened spring training Monday at The Astros Osceola County Stadium complex in Kissimmee, FL. MLB Preview 2012: The Houston Astros
Last year in this space I bashed the now former columnist for the Houston Chronicle Richard Justice for creating a false narrative in regard to the supposed youth movement the Astros were about to field. Justice had been arguing that the 2011 season was all about the performance of three young players, namely Brett Wallace, Chris Johnson, and Jason Castro. If this was all the season...
Mission Possible: Houston Astros and the Single-Season Loss Record
If you are wondering how bad the Houston Astros are, let me paint a picture.
If the teams formed to make a Monopoly board, the Houston Astros would be Baltic Avenue. Or to use a better analogy, the Houston Astros would be “Hamsterdam” from The Wire. In the show, the concept of “Hamsterdam” is to corner off all the drug dealers to an abandoned area of town...
Lyles, Happ fighting for spots in rotation
By Mark Mitchell
FoxSportsHouston.com
The theme of the Houston Astros spring training is competition, and one of the most contested battles is who will emerge to earn spots in the starting pitching rotation.
With Wandy Rodriguez, Brett Myers and Bud Norris assured -- use that word cautiously with this team - the first three spots in the rotation, a variety of candidates are vying...

Back to normal: Snyder in 'great shape'

Elder statesman Livan enjoys role of mentor
The oldest Astros player in camp is 15-year veteran Livan Hernandez, who signed a Minor League contract with hopes of winning a rotation spot. The 37-year-old Hernandez said he signed with the Astros because he heard great things about the organization.
Castro enters into important spring with Astros
Jason Castro remains the Astros' catcher of the future, and he came to Spring Training in good health and with plenty left to prove. Despite losing a year to injury in his young career, Castro is thankful to be back on the field and back in his element.
Recovering Castro back behind plate
For the first time since he was in the Arizona Fall League last October, Astros catcher Jason Castro caught in the bullpen during Monday's first day of workouts. Castro had surgery in January to remove a bone from his left foot after missing all of last year due to ACL surgery on his right knee.
Astros to first groom best arms for rotation
The Astros have plenty of live arms in camp, and it's the belief of general manager Jeff Luhnow to develop the club's best arms as starters until it's deemed they're best suited for the bullpen.
Expect bumps, bruises as PFPs commence
Pitcher Lucas Harrell was sporting a big bruise on his right forearm Tuesday, one day after he suffered the first injury of the spring when he took a ground ball off his arm during pitchers' fielding practice (PFPs).
Catching Livan an experience for Wallace
Chris Wallace, a non-roster catcher who attended the University of Houston, couldn't help but smile when he got done catching soft-throwing pitcher Livan Hernandez during Tuesday's bullpen sessions.
