Found September 06, 2013 on Overtime:
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown has been diagnosed with tendinitis after suffering an Achilles tendon injury. Because of this, he will be shut down indefinitely but it most likely will be at least a week before he gets reevaluated. Brown initially said that he would not be back “for a while”. I would not be surprised if the Phillies just shut him down for the rest of the season especially given that the club is currently 63-77 and 15.5 games back in the wild-card hunt. There is no need to keep playing him with the chance of the injury to worsen, or even have him suffer another injury altogether. Despite the Phillies having another lackluster season, Brown has been a bright spot for them. After being called up during 2010 as the Phillies’ then-top prospect, he struggled to find his way as the power threat that the club had envisioned him to be. However he has turned it around this season by hitting .274/.320/.513 with 27 home runs and 81 runs batted in. Back in May he ...

Trying to Untangle the 2014 Phillies Roster

The Phillies currently have 46 players on their 40-man roster. This in itself is not strange – with the advent of the 60-day disabled list (DL), teams can carry up to 25 active players and 15 players in the minors as reserve, with any player who is anticipated to miss 60 days or more not counting against the final 40. The Phillies currently have six players on their 40-man who...

Chase Utley Finally Responds To Mac From It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

We here at Next Impulse are ecstatic about the season 9 premiere of one of the funniest shows on television, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, airing on FX tonight. A long standing story line throughout the duration of the show, has been Mac’s (one of the main characters) “man crush” on Chase Utley, who is the 2nd baseman of the Philadelphia Phillies. In one episode during...

Chooch and the Qualifying Offer

The Phillies have a multitude of roster-related problems to solve this offseason, as Ian Riccaboni pointed out, but the catching situation is perhaps the most interesting. Carlos Ruiz is set to become a free agent, and while his early struggles rendered his return less likely, his .330/.375/.536 line since August 1 makes him an attractive option. While prospects Tommy Joseph and...

Phillies Demote Pitcher Ethan Martin To The Bullpen

This was one of the more obvious moves. Despite all of Twitter and even the Phillies own broadcasters constantly remarking that Ethan Martin is better suited for the bullpen, the Phillies finally made such a move: Ethan Martin to bullpen. Cloyd to take his spot. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) September...

Asche leads Phillies over Braves

Cody Asche hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Cliff Lee outdueled fellow left-hander Mike Minor as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Friday night. After surrendering a homer to Andrelton Simmons leading off the third inning, Lee (12-6) didn't allow a hit through eight innings. He finished with 10 strikeouts without a walk, giving up just two...

Phils Snatch Victory From Braves

Cliff Lee was brilliant tonight. (Photo: AP) For a long time, it seemed like the Phillies were going to lose tonight, and then, just like that, they didn’t. A quick swing of Cody Asche’s bat, and a great effort from Cliff Lee, and the Phils found themselves a 2-1 victory over the first place Braves. OUR HERO, CODY ASCHE - For a long time, it looked bleak tonight. Not much happened...

Phils Blow Lead, Lose Series

Doc struggled with command yet again, but gave up just one run over six innings. (PHOTO: AP) The Phillies had a 2-1 lead going into the 7th inning, after Roy Halladay had gutted out six innings of one-run baseball on the mound. But two batters later, the game was tied 2-2 after a home run by Ryan Zimmerman off Zach Miner. Then, in the 8th inning, a leadoff walk by Jake Diekman resulted...

Doc Settles Down After Rough First, But Phillies Fall

The first inning was plenty cause for concern for Phillies fans. Roy Halladay, off a tough start in Chicago, was incredibly wild to start. In the first inning alone, Halladay allowed a hit and three walks. Yet, thanks to a sacrifice fly and a ground ball double play, Halladay escaped...

Lee deals a gem as Phils beat Braves 2-1

Cliff Lee and Mike Minor were brilliant Friday night pitching deep into the game while stifling opposing bats. Both made one mistake. Minor’s was bigger. Lee went down early giving up a solo moonshot to Atlanta phenom shortstop Andrelton Simmons in the third inning. For the Phillies it was a pair of (relatively) young players — Darin Ruf and Cody Asche — teaming up for the...

Domonic Brown Doubtful To Play "For A While"

Achillies heels have been the Phillies' Achillies heel the last couple seasons. After Ryan Howard's tear at the last out of the 2011 playoffs, Domonic Brown has his own issues. Brown's season could be in doubt now after tendonitis has been diagnosed in Brown's Achillies heel. Yesterday, Todd Zolecki reported:...

Zimmermans Prevail, Halladay Unorthodox As Philadelphia Phillies Lose To Washington Nationals

Roy Halladay is just impossible to figure out right now. He came off the disabled list nearly two weeks ago, pitched great, then got hit around in his last start this past weekend. Tonight’s start was somewhere in between, as Halladay allowed just one run to the Nationals over six innings, but Washington was able to get to the Phillies’ bullpen in the end and pull out a 3-2 victory...

Gameday: Braves (85-54) vs. Phillies (63-77)

Atlanta Braves (85-54) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (63-77)  Cliff Lee (11-6, 3.09) vs Mike Minor (13-5, 3.08) Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park TV: Comcast SportsNet Weather: 72, clear Media: Twitter and Facebook With 84 wins, the Atlanta Braves have the best record in baseball.  First place is safe for the Braves, as they have a significant 14-game lead over the Washington...

Cliff Lee and Cody Asche Lead Win in Philly

Photo Credit: Andrew Gillen With the minor league-esque lineup the Phillies have been putting out lately, it's no suprise that many of the games are low-scoring pitchers duels. Then, when a matchup of Cliff Lee vs. Mike Minor comes along, a 150-minute game is completely possible. A Chris Johnson single...

Roy Halladay, Phillies Take On Jordan Zimmermann, Washington Nationals

Tonight the Phillies look to rebound from last night's excruciating loss in which Phillies pitchers walked nine batters and gave up nine runs. Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins return to the lineup after a night off and Cesar Hernandez will make another start in center field. If Hernandez's bat comes...

Cliff Lee, Mike Minor Open Up Weekend Series In Philly

The Phillies are coming off of a 1-2 series loss to the Nationals this past week. After losing Wednesday night's game 3-2, the Phillies got an off day before beginning this weekend's series with the first place Braves. Cliff Lee (11-6, 3.09 ERA) will take on the Braves as they...
