Found October 10, 2013 on Hall of Very Good:
Want to know how popular "Breaking Bad" is?  Early Thursday, a picture of Bryan Cranston (as lead character Walter White) dressed in a Philadelphia Phillies jersey, hit the internets and by the afternoon...it was seemingly everywhere.  It even popped up on Major League Baseball's Fan Cave Twitter feed. But...here's the story that a lot of folks missed.  Not long after everyone started posting the story and picture, the Phillies had an offer on the table for Cranston. I've gotta think the guy takes them up on the offer, right?  I mean, everything I've ever seen with Cranston paints him to be a pretty cool dude.  But, should he not head to Citizens Bank Park...we'll always have this.

Would a Davey Lopes Return Impact the Phillies?

Was the Phillies success on the basepaths from 2007 through 2010 Lopes, the players, or the perfect storm of both? With the return of Larry Bowa and Pete Mackanin to the Phillies coaching ranks announced Tuesday and Ruben Amaro noting that Charlie Manuel has a standing offer to return to the Phillies as an adviser, many Phillies fans are beginning to wonder which former Phillies...

Phillies Nation Player Review: B.J. Rosenberg

Everyone knows someone: the guy that has the worst luck in the world, the guy that lightening always strikes, the guy that bad situations always find. For the 2013 Phillies, the race to be “that guy” was a dead heat between Cole Hamels and B.J. Rosenberg. For a 14 appearance stretch in 2013, luck really didn’t matter for Rosenberg, as he was virtually un-hittable. Rosenberg...

Phillies Nation Player Review: J.C. Ramirez

Ramirez showed flashes of potential in 2013, making it all the way to the active roster after being designated for assignment but ultimately pitched poorly for the Phillies. Photo by: Jay Floyd Imagine you are 21 years old and you have a mid-90s fastball. You’re from Nicaragua and you were just a part of a package that was traded for a Cy Young Award winner. You go from the low...

Expanded Storyline: Grab bag of tricks for the Philadelphia Phillies

Using 20/20 hindsight, players were available on the market for the Philadelphia Phillies besides Mike Adams. There were other third basemen, outfielders and relievers. Why didn’t Ruben Amaro Jr. corral them? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   Welcome, Newcomers: This article represents the thinking of a baseball man in my opinion. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the...

Phillies Nation Player Review: John Lannan

John Lannan is likely to be non-tendered by the Phillies after an injury plagued season (Photo: AP). After five-plus seasons of watching John Lannan pitch against their team a handful of times each year, Phillies fans were right to be wary when Ruben Amaro inked the soft-tossing lefty last December to a one-year deal worth at least $2.5 million.  At his best, Lannan is a mediocre...

Could Charlie Manuel Return as Advisor?

Fresh news from Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Charlie Manuel is in the middle of making a decision of whether or not he wants to return to the Phillies in an advisory capacity. Gelb spoke to general manager Ruben Amaro, who cited Dallas Green and Pat Gillick‘s returns to the Phillies after their time with the Phils as manager and general manager, respectively, had expired...

Phillies Nation Player Review: Mauricio Robles

Mauricio Robles is a young Venezuelan pitcher that the Phillies claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners last offseason. Prior to that, he’d been part of a trade that sent Jarrod Washburn from the Mariners to the Tigers for Robles and Luke French. Why am I telling you this? Because there’s a decent chance you missed him in a Phillies uniform in 2013. He did not make his...

Walter White As A Phillies Fan Was Too Despicable An Idea For ‘Breaking Bad’ Writers

Breaking Bad protagonist Walter White was a simple man turned evil. The once goodhearted chemistry teacher has a laundry list of atrocious acts from the show including bombing a nursing home, killing a lot of people, poisoning a child, turning on his friends, brother-in-law and his wife. Despite all of these despicable acts, viewers still had a bond with the character. So what is...

#FANtasking Initiative by MLB Kicks Off Wireless Improvements at Parks

Thanks to former Phillies minor leaguer Brian Gump for the heads up on a big initiative going on throughout all of Major League Baseball.  For everyone that’s ever dealt with weak signals on his or her device at the ballpark, new and improved mobile experiences are coming soon! Pete Mackanin back on Phillies’ staff as third base coach

Philadelphia Phillies’ manager Ryne Sandberg is on his way to completing his coaching staff. He has already added former teammate, mentor and friend Larry Bowa to be his bench coach. He also added Pete Mackanin to be the third base coach next season. Mackanin was the Phillies bench coach from 2009 through 2012 and is happy to be back after his contract was not renewed for 2013...

Hits & Misses: Beltran To The Phillies? Tulo and CarGo Are Going Nowhere?

I read some scuttlebutt last night about the Philadelphia Phillies possibly honing in on free agent to be Carlos Beltran this winter. If every free-agent signee were able to guarantee a replication of the previous year’s performance, Beltran would be No. 1 on the Phillies’ list. In 600 plate appearances for the Cardinals in 2013, he hit .296/.339/.491 with 24 home runs. More...

Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: Roy Halladay

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market. Note that, this year, in addition to asking readers to estimate the years/dollars each...

Walter White As A Phillies Fan Was Too Far For The Breaking Bad Writers To Go

(photo via Twitter) At UPROXX, we are contractually obligated to each send in three ‘Breaking Bad’ stories per day. The sports content of the show was infrequent — not a lot of sports teams in New Mexico, and not a lot of HOCKEY, ***** quips — so I’m a little behind. If you haven’t seen the show, protagonist Walter White has done a lot of bad things. He’s watched...

Phillies Can Learn A Lot From Postseason

“It all starts at the top…with the front office.” – Adam Wainwright. Following his complete game, NLDS Game 5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Wainwright said those words when asked about how the St. Louis Cardinals continue to churn out winning season after winning season, playoff win after playoff win. And as soon as he said it, it made the Phillies decline stand out...
