A BIG hat tip goes out to everyone who attended Phillies Quizzo on Wednesday night. We had 20 teams battle it out for a host of Phillies prizes including a raffle featuring a framed and autographed Roy Halladay “Pride of the Phillies” poster. Through everyone’s generosity, we were able to raise enough money for Philabundance to provide 1,150 meals for families in the Delaware Valley. A special thanks to Holy Family University Athletics for sponsoring, Scoats and The Grey Lodge for hosting, Erin for quizzing and the winning team for donating their prize money. Details for our next charity event, Wiffadelphia on March 9th, are coming soon. In the meantime you can catch Pat hosting Sports Quizzo this Sunday at 6:30 in Center City. Here are some photos from the event:

Philadelphia Phillies news: Suds or studs, the boss

Decisions employed by these lucky guys determine the careers of many Philadelphia Phillies, like Jonathan Papelbon.  How did they do their jobs in your humble opinion? TAL’S HANDY CAPS:  POLL   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: This is the second poll, which will be honed over time, like my other postings. Phillies on a limited budget? Trade for Revere a good business move

The Phillies passing on some “overpaid” big name free agents have traded for Ben Revere, sending Vance Worley and Trevor May to the Twins. The Phils who are in dire need of offense and power will get little of either in acquiring Revere. Last season with the Twins Revere hit .294 ,stole 40 bases, and drove in a paltry 32 runs in 553 at bats. What makes the 24-year-old Revere...

Analyze That: Was Revere Trade Best Option for Phillies?

In 2008, the Phillies brought the city its first championship since the early 1980's. Every winter since then, the team has added a markee name and big contract to its roster, only to see the team's overall performance slip a little from the previous season. The club's general manager, Ruben Amaro Jr., was initially praised for each of the "big splash" moves...

Would You Rather- Young or Frandsen/Galvis?

Apparently Ruben Amaro Jr. is hot and heavy for the Texas Rangers Michael Young to fill the Phillies 3rd base vacancy next season.  Young has full no-trade rights and is owed $16M in 2013.  He's coming off a season in which he only hit .277/.682 and is now 36 years old.  Rangers are rumored to be willing to eat at least half of his salary, but that's still a steep price...

Ben Revere In; The Vanimal Out

Right-handed pitcher Vance Worley was actually standing in Citizens Bank Park when he got the news that he was being shipped to Minnesota. He was as shocked as the rest of us that his time in Philadelphia was at an end. Sadly, the Vanimal is gone. Phillies’ top pitching prospect Trevor May will join him there as well. In return, the Phillies got a young centerfielder. Ben Revere...

Phillies Land Centerfielder Ben Revere For RHP Vance Worley

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired centerfielder and leadoff man Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says that the Twins are getting right-hander Vance Worley in return. Revere gives the Phillies a big stolen base threat as well as a tremendous defender with outstanding range in center. The 24 year old has...

Phillies Select Ender Inciarte in Rule 5 Draft

The Phillies have taken 22-year old Ender Inciarte 15th overall from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ system. Inciarte is a speedy outfielder who reached High-A Visalia last season at age 21, hitting .319/.377/.419 with 1 HR and 28 steals in eight attempts. The lefty is 5’11 from Venezuela and could be an immediate defensive contributor for the Phillies. Baseball America editor John...

Phillies acquire Ben Revere from Twins for Vance Worley and minor leaguer

Ben Revere will man center field in Citizens Bank Park when the Philadelphia Phillies take the field in 2013. The outfielder was acquired on Thursday from the Minnesota Twins for pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May. The Phillies were one of a handful of teams who had interest in Revere. The 24-year-old Revere batted .294/.333/.342 last season. While he has blazing speed on the base...

Michael Young approves trade to Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have filled their hole at third base with Michael Young after the veteran has accepted a rumored trade to Philadelphia. The Texas Rangers will be paying $10 million of the $16 million owed to Young in 2013. Heading to the Rangers in return for Young are reliever Josh Lindblom and prospect Lisalverto Bonilla. 2012 was the worst season of Young's career...

Revere hit .294/.333/.342   with 13 doubles, six triples, 32 RBIs, 40 stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 511 at-bats last season. He also carried a .333 on-base percentage and a .342...

AP source: Cubs, Schierholtz nearing agreement

A person familiar with the negotiations says outfielder Nate Schierholtz and the Chicago Cubs are closing in on a one-year, $2.25 million contract. The person, speaking Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been finalized, confirmed reports by several media outlets. Schierholtz can earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses. Schierholtz was traded...

Finalized: Texas Rangers Officially Trade Michael Young to the Philadelphia Phillies

The deal is done. After time to mull it over, Michael Young has accepted the trade to Philadelphia and will be the Phillies' starting third baseman. The cost: relief pitcher Josh Lindbloom and minor league pitcher Lisalberto Bonilla, reports CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury. The Phillies acquired Lindblom at the trade deadline...

Reports: Cubs sign Schierholtz

Days after being non-tendered by the Philadelphia Phillies, outfielder Nate Schierholtz landed a one-year, $2.25 million deal with the Chicago Cubs, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday night. According to ESPN.com, the Cubs envision Schierholtz as their primary right fielder in 2013. The Chicago Tribune reported that Schierholtz might share right field with Dave Sappelt....
