Found October 29, 2013 on College Spun:
If you haven’t heard, this Jameis Winston kid at Florida State is a pretty good football player. As such, it looks like he’s starting to get some “royal” treatment from his fan base. While he may not yet have achieved the same level of popularity as Miami Heat superstar LeBron James, some Seminoles fans have created a pretty clever shirt to draw comparisons to the two.  Remember that Winston’s first name is pronounced “Jay-miss”, not “Jay-mice”.  @darrenrovell Darren Rovell is definitely a #WITNEIS. Get the shirt all #Noles fans will have for #UMvsFSU. — #Witneis (@Witneis) October 29, 2013 The shirt’s design is clearly a very clever ripoff of Nike’s famous “Witness” campaign for King James. Unfortunately, there is no way that the NCAA or the CLC signed off here, considering it references a specific player. That doesn’t mean you won’t see plenty of these in the stands this Saturday, however.

Heisman Watch: Ranking the contenders entering Week 10

Heisman Trophy campaigns may be fed in September when star players feast on less-than-impressive non-conference competition, but true contenders often don’t start to shine until conference play in October and November.  That was the case for last year’s winner, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, and former Baylor star signal-caller Robert Griffin III in 2011. This week in college football (TWICF) 10/28/13 – With a victory over the #7 Miami Hurricanes this Saturday,  may be the opportunity that the Florida State Seminoles need to jump back into the BCS Championship game. The Seminoles were thought to be very good this season in a weak ACC conference, but hey have shown they are a lot better than advertised.  Holding top five units...

No. 7 Miami prepping for Winston, No. 3 FSU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Jameis Winston's numbers are just ridiculous. A 70 percent completion rate. An average of 311 passing yards per game. Multiple touchdown throws in every outing so far this season. That's how a redshirt freshman becomes a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. That's also why the Florida State quarterback has Miami's full attention. Seven teams have tried...

No.3 Florida State Seminoles VS No.7 Miami Hurricanes Preview

The No.7 Miami Hurricanes are going to travel to Tallahassee to take on the No.3 Florida State Seminoles. This is a rivalry that goes back decades and with both teams in the top 10 this season, it feels like the rivalry has been renewed. This game means a lot to both schools as they are both undefeated and it should be an entertaining game to watch. Florida State is taking the country...

FSU QB Jameis Winston Gives Miami a Little Bulletin Board Material

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has taken the college football world by storm this season. His play has the Seminoles ranked No. 3 in the nation, himself a front runner for the Heisman trophy, and all eyes looking and waiting to see what sort of magic he will pull of next. With a big game coming up this weekend with in-state rival Miami he is getting the media attention...

NFL scout: If FSU QB Jameis Winston were available, he'd be first pick in draft

Good thing for the Florida State Seminoles that freshman quarterback Jameis Winston isn't eligible for the NFL draft. If he were, he'd probably be the first overall pick. Or at least that's what one NFL scout told me earlier this week. The scout said he is not allowed to talk publicly about players who are not eligible for the draft, but he did offer me this comment...

Miami defense looking to slow down FSU QB Jameis Winston

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Jameis Winston's numbers are ridiculous.

Jameis Winston says Miami Hurricanes can be the big brother in rivalry

Florida State and Miami are both undefeated entering Saturday’s game between the teams in Tallahassee, but there’s no doubt who’s expected to win. The Seminoles are favored by 21 points, which is the largest spread for two top-10 teams meeting this late in the year since 1980, per But Jameis Winston, who has been […]

Heisman Forecast: For Winston another crucial game awaits

A year ago, Geno Smith was the Heisman Trophy favorite as we reached the season's midpoint -- but we all know how that turned out. Even the player who took the lead from him, Collin Klein, didn't leave Times Square in December with the 25-pound chunk of history in hand. The point here, is that while it looks like the trophy is Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota's to...

Miami-Florida St. Preview

There are definitely three things that Florida State and Miami have in common right now. Both are 7-0. Both are among the nation's top 10 teams. Both are not being forthcoming about their disdain for the other side. The third-ranked Seminoles will host the seventh-ranked Hurricanes on Saturday night in a matchup with national championship implications and one that - at least...

Heismanic Week 9: 10 names that could just be 3

I’ve got to admit that I’m disappointed in my readers. The only crrrrrazzy comments I get are from Paco and I can’t really take him seriously no matter how vitriolic and strident he gets because of that one time where he put all of his personal information in a comment and his name wasn’t even Paco. Hi, Paco, if you’re reading this one. I’m disappointed in the lack of...

SEC honks say "We want the Duckies" columnist Kevin Scarbinsky thinks Florida State would be a much tougher matchup for Alabama than the Oregon Ducks. If the choices are Oregon or Florida State, the two teams who've swapped the No. 2 BCS ranking behind Alabama the last two weeks, it's no choice. Give the Tide the Ducks. Why? Florida State has a much better chance to man up to Alabama. FSU has SEC...

Miami/FSU resembling its former glory years

It’s been awhile, but the annual rivalry between the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida State Seminoles this season again resembling its heyday of yesteryear. The annual grudge match for years was once the gold standard in college football, featuring legendary coaches and perennial powerhouse programs consistently striving to win national championships. Both teams enter this weekend’s...

Miami-FSU Preview

WVUM’s Chris Wittyngham continues his series of previews with this week’s Top 10 matchup between the Hurricanes and the Seminoles. In this space ahead of the Wake Forest game, I wrote the following: “Miami needs to take this opportunity to work out the kinks that we’ve seen in the last three games against this Wake team at home. If they don’t, Miami could be in for a close...
