Darvish vs. Verlander. All day, I looked forward to tonight’s game.  With two of the best aces in the game going head to head, I just knew it was going to be a beautiful night of pitching.  I guess I forgot about the potent offenses.  Or something. The Rangers got to Verlander first, scoring once in the 1st inning, after their own pitcher had thrown 11 pitches.  But then Detroit took their bats to Darvish in the 3rd and jumped ahead 3-1.  It was a pretty rough inning for Darvish, and I was sure he’d be done in the next few frames. I was wrong.  Darvish wasn’t done, and neither were the Rangers. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Rangers bats went crazy — scoring seven times on four hits.  Okay, so there was also a hit by pitch and two runs walked in that inning.  It was not Verlander’s night, and Geovany Soto was the last batter he faced.  Soto sent him out with a three-run home run. Detroit wasn’t completely out yet.  They struck back as the very first batter in the next inning hit a ho...

Yu Darvish tossed 130 pitches in eight innings against the Tigers on Thursday despite the Rangers leading 10-4. Manager Ron Washington’s decision to leave Darvish in the game for so long has...

Darvish made Cabrera look silly on curveball

Does anyone have a more wicked pitching arsenal than Yu Darvish? The Texas Rangers stud pitcher matched up with Justin Verlander on Thursday in a game that surprisingly turned into a slugfest. While Verlander was rocked and couldn’t make it through three innings, Darvish got through eight to pick up his seventh win of the season. But there was one moment in particular that must...

Rangers manager defends heavy use of Yu Darvish

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Ron Washington was not about to question himself Friday over Yu Darvish's recent workload. Especially since Darvish felt fine after throwing a career-high 130 pitches Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers. The Texas manager had no qualms about sending his ace back to the mound in the eighth inning against the Detroit Tigers even though the Rangers...

Yu Darvish throws "Eephus pitch" to strike out Miguel Cabrera (Video)

It's been awhile since I've seen an "Eephus pitch" thrown at the Major League level but clearly, Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish knows how to use it. Watch as he delivers a 62-mph pitch past Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera: (Courtesy of It's Always Sunny in Detroit)

Rangers rock Verlander, give Darvish big win

Soto's drive just over the wall in left field came after Verlander walked in two...

Rangers knock out Verlander early with 7-run 3rd

The Texas Rangers have knocked out Detroit ace Justin Verlander with a seven-run third inning as an anticipated pitching duel with Yu Darvish fizzled. Tigers-Rangers Preview

Justin Verlander says it's May. Yu Darvish says it's not the first great opposing pitcher he's faced, and won't be his last. True on all counts. These showdowns don't come along every day, though. And this one - the AL's strikeout king against his potential heir - is an enticing as they come. The hard-throwing right-handers from Detroit and Texas will meet...

Soto's smash sends Verlander to the showers

ARLINGTON, Texas Geovany Soto's three-run homer Thursday off Detroit ace Justin Verlander is one he will tell his grandkids about. Just ask him. "Hell, yeah," Soto said. "No, but it felt good. Spending so much time in the National League, you only get to see these guys on TV. Once you get to face them, you're like, "Wow!" It felt good." It...

Yu Darvish Early Favorite For A.L. Cy Young?

Thursday’s Detroit Tigers-Texas Ranger’s game in Texas had the potential to feature a pitching duel for the ages. Unfortunately for Detroit however, their resident ace, Justin Verlander, wasn’t able to fulfill his end of the deal. Lasting just over two innings, Verlander allowed eight earned runs

The Pitching Duel Fail and Thursday’s Box Scores

There was speculation that the Justin Verlander versus Yu Darvish pitching duel could be a thing of legend. However, Verlander never made it to the fourth inning, giving up seven earned runs in the third. Stephen Strasburg reminded us of his dominance as he pitched eight strong innings for the Nationals. Mets 5 v Cardinals 2: Adam Wainwright surrenders four runs over six innings...

Game 2013.39: Tigers at Rangers

22-16, 1st place, .5 games up. The Tigers are 6-1 v. the Astros, outscoring them 55-19. (They could be 7-0 with a margin of 59-19 if Tiger stadium weren’t so big…) They are 16-15 versus everyone else. So how good are the Tigers, really? Well, the numbers, as posted by Coleman yesterday, are pretty darn good. Exceptional to be honest. But only 1 game above .500 against everyone...
