Well I hope Pirates fans feel better now that they've gotten their anger out of their system towards David Wright. I hope their announcers are also happy that they fanned the flames of their already agitated fan base to stir up some sort of rah rah ballpark interest. Good for them. Even though they have four all-stars and 54 wins going into Friday's game, and therefore a whole lot to be happy about, they felt the need to invent outrage because Wright didn't choose Alvarez initially to take part in glorified batting practice on Monday. Even though Wright took Alvarez when Carlos Gonzalez begged out due to minor injury, they still booed Wright every chance they got. But Pedro Alvarez's home run in the first inning made them feel better about life. Hooray for them. But I think the real heel turn started in the eighth inning, and it was Terry Collins that put on the nWo shirt. First, he pinch hit for Jeremy Hefner in a 2-2 game ... a game that Hefner was absolutely c...

Mets Do The Wright Thing With Their Latest Ticket Promotion

I complain a bit too much about some of the promotions the Mets do or don’t do. Nowhere near as much as our friends at Mets Police, but I do give them a good rip from time to time. But sometimes, the Mets do hit it out of the park, and this latest promotion does just that. Read on… Root for Mets All-Star David Wright in the Chevrolet Home Run Derby this Monday at 8 p.m. on ESPN...

Demolition Derby Outrage Against Wright

“Yo, dude? What’s up with that? Come on — El Toro’s born and bred in NYC!” That was one Pirates’ fan’s reaction when learning that David Wright had snubbed Pedro Alvarez for the home run derby on Sunday. Alvarez is second in the National League in homers and fifth in MLB. Last night, when he walloped his 23rd home run, this was how Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown called...

Pirates fans booed David Wright over Pedro Alvarez snub

New York Mets third baseman David Wright was booed by Pittsburgh Pirates fans on Friday at PNC Park, and it’s all because of a Home Run Derby snub. This year’s All-Star Game is being played at Citi Field, so Wright was named captain of the NL Derby team. He chose Bryce Harper, Carlos Gonzalez, and [...]

Pirates Notebook: David Wright Talks about Adding Alvarez to Derby

Pedro Alvarez is excited to participate in a hometown Derby. (Photo credit: David Hague) There was much dismay, consternation, anger, irritation, even exasperation that National League captain David Wright did not initially select Pedro Alvarez to the 2013 Home Run Derby. “Everyone got to gyrate,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. Okay, gyration. Point is: Alvarez is in now...

Mets Well Represented In Top 5 In Jersey Sales

According to ESPN.com and Major League Baseball, the Mets have two of the five most popular jerseys purchased this season. Probably to nobody’s surprise, Matt Harvey finds himself #5 on this list, but quite frankly to my surprise, David Wright is ranked #4 on the list! Jersey sales are a funny thing. Often times when a player changes teams you’ll note a spike in jersey sales...

Mets Trade Rumors: Potential Suitors for Five Players at Trade Deadline

The New York Mets are in the most envious of positions for the sellers of Major League Baseball; they have a plan. New York is sticking to its rebuilding plan and with the emergence of starters like Zack Wheeler and Matt Harvey and the long-term signing of franchise player, David Wright, the Mets have light at the end of a dismal tunnel. In the next couple of years the Mets could...

Mets Should Stay Intact And Try For Strong Second Half

Rarely does a major league roster go unchanged from Opening Day to the end of the season and the 2013 New York Mets are no exception. The roster Terry Collins will be playing with this weekend in Pittsburgh and taking into the All-Star break barely resembles that of the one that left Port St. Lucie. WRIGHT: Not the only positive. (AP) Less than a month ago the Mets were 15 games...

Game 91 Preview: Pirates vs. Mets

Mets (40-48) at Pirates (54-36) 7:05 PM–PNC Park, Pittsburgh MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT The Bucs host the Mets in their final series before the All-Star Break as they look to finish the unofficial first half strong. New York may look like an easy opponent, especially at home, but the Metropolitans have actually been playing quite well lately. They’ve won four in a row and haven’t...
