This Is Getting Old:
I think the best part about being a Pirates fan right now is the huge swing in emotions from every other year. Being a Pirates fan for the past twenty years was like this: Being a Pirates fan like now just makes the sun shine every day. Read the recap! First Pitch: 7:05 PM EST [...]
BEST OF MAXIM
At the end of May, I observed how the Pittsburgh Pirates had an offense poised for history. They were no just bad at scoring runs, they were great at making outs. They had a team wRC+ twelve points lower than the next-nearest lineup:
I called it a “catastrophe” then, but now it has become a swash-buckle’d turnaround.
In the month of June, the Pirates had a 111 wRC+, good...

Happy Independence Day to all…what better way to celebrate than with the First Place Bucs? They’ll take on Houston in an afternoon contest in search of sole possession of first place.
Last night was pretty awesome, if you missed the recap.
Drew Sutton smacked a walk off solo home run lifting the Pirates to an 8-7 win over Houston on Tuesday night. The Pirates claimed Sutton off waivers June 24 and added him to the active roster a day later. The infielder/outfielder has seven hits in 27 at bats for a .407 average, with one home run and four RBI. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko spoke with Sutton recently.

Even though the Pirates won the first three games against the Astros this week, they had to come back to win each time. Jeff Karstens made sure that wasn’t an issue on Thursday night as the Bucs earned the sweep.
Karstens was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. He dominated the Astros in three starts against them last season and picked up right where he left off tonight, tossing eight...
Mike McKenry and Pedro Alvarez drove in two runs apiece, and the Pittsburgh Pirates looked pretty comfortable during their first day in first place, beating the Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday.
Kevin Correia (5-6) won his third straight decision as the streaking Pirates moved nine games above .500 (45-36) for the first time since Barry Bonds was swinging for the fences at Three...
Rod Barajas’ week was once again shortened due to his left knee bone bruise. Rod was listed in the lineup 4 times, but he was scratched about an hour before game time on both Monday and Thursday. He did manage to start Friday and Tuesday to catch Kevin Correia and AJ Burnett, respectively. On Friday, [...]
The Houston Astros traded slugger Carlos Lee to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for a pair of prospects.
The Astros acquired third baseman Matt Dominguez and left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen in the deal.
The 36-year-old Lee spent five-plus seasons with the Astros and is hitting .287 with five homers and 29 RBI in 65 games this year.
Houston manager Brad Mills removed...
Pretty much. Dee Gordon will undergo surgery on his right thumb after an MRI today revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament.
Gordon injured his thumb sliding head-first into third base during Wednesday night's game -- a 4-1 Dodger victory.
The Dodgers recalled Luis Cruz a few days ago, so he'll be Gordon's primary replacement until he's either healthy or...
While it's been an up-and-down first half of the season for the Milwaukee Brewers, the Houston Astros have been spiraling steadily downward for the last several weeks.
Having to face Yovani Gallardo doesn't look like it will help Houston.
Gallardo seeks to win his eighth straight start against the Astros, who try to avoid a ninth consecutive loss overall in Friday night...
