After Fang Faction reported a week ago that David Poile would be the General Manager of Team USA's men squad heading to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, it was made official Friday. USA Hockey made the announcement prior to making the formal introduction in New York City Saturday.  “It is the honor of a lifetime to serve my country in this capacity,” Poile said in a press release. “To not only represent the United States and the sport, but to do it on the highest level of sporting competition, in an event that brings the world together, is a dream come true.” During the 2010 Winter Games held in Vancouver, Poile was assistant GM to then-Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke. Burke and Poile collectively brought together the best American born players and finished the tournament with a silver medal. “We couldn't be more pleased than to have David as our general manager,” said Ron DeGregorio president of USA Hockey. “He continues to have a remarkable management career in the National Hockey League and the vast experience and expertise he brings to the table will serve us well in our goal to bring the gold medal back to the United States." Burke will remain in the decision making for Team USA, but at lower level of importance. His role will be head director of player personnel. Pittsburgh Penguins' GM Ray Shero will reunite once again. Shero was named associare GM by USA Hockey to work alongside Poile. From 1998-2006, Poile and Shero were a part of the Preds organization.
