Rockies-herrera-waits-the
It isn't Jonathan Herrera's fault that the Rockies lost. With the tying run at the plate and one out in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Colorado Rockies sent Jonathan Herrera to the plate.Jonathan Herrera. While Herrera has had a very good year for the Rockies and plays the role that he has been given very well, he is frankly, not the guy anyone wants to see stroll to the plate with a chance to tie the game.Herrera promptly hit into a double play, ending the late Rockies threat and giving the Marlins the 5-3 victory. As mentioned, Herrera has been very good in the role the club has asked him to play, but the situation he was in on Thursday is a no-brainer, pinch-hit situation where a guy with a big bat who can tie the game comes to the plate. The problem is, that guy doesn't exist for the Rockies. Even with Todd Helton on the bench, the Rockies don't possess a serious power threat on their bench. So instead, they have to hope Herrera can get a base hit and keep the in...

  • O'Dowd has needed to go for as long as he has been here. I don't think there has been one off season in all of his time where he has not dismantled and dessimated every team we have had. Anybody that knows anything about team sports is that it takes some time for a bunch of guys to gel into a winning team, and he has FAILED to let this happen. Idiot!
  • I'm not sure the blame doesn't fall on the entire organization. I have lived here 8 years and I don't understand why it takes 95 games to figure out a pitching staff. You never know who will be playing even taking into account injuries. What do they do at Spring Training? Is it true there is a front office person in the club House. I had heard that rumor. If true why would anyone want to be their field manager. The problem is YOU CAN'T FIRE the OWNER. Its the System. Saving pitchers with 100 pitch limit when throwing good. What are they saving them for? 10 games under 500. Frustrated?????

Colorado Rockies Trade Rumors: Empty hopes with an empty trading block

The Colorado Rockies are slipping out of NL West contention quickly. Their offense, the catalyst for their success in the first half of the season, has stalled. Whether the impact of injuries to Tulowitzki, Fowler, and Gonzalez are finally taking their toll, or whether the dog days of summer are catching up to Colorado’s bats, the offense has disappeared. The perfect fix for...

Time to give Jorge De La Rosa the credit he deserves as he wills Colorado Rockies to victory

De La Rosa is a quiet superstar.A 2-1 victory for the Colorado Rockies means one thing, the offense is still lost.It would be easy to focus on an offense that has been so bad that they have nearly played themselves out of the playoff picture. They continued to take bad at-bats and not work counts against young pitchers who they have never faced before.Once again, the Marlins starter...

Rockies LHP Pomeranz placed on DL, CarGo sits out

Colorado Rockies left-hander Drew Pomeranz was scratched from his scheduled start against Milwaukee and placed on the 15-day disabled list because of left bicep tendinitis. That was just one injury plaguing the Rockies on Friday night. Carlos Gonzalez, forced to leave Thursday's game against Miami after aggravating the sprained middle finger on his right hand while swinging...

Q&A: Jim Wright, Colorado Rockies Pitching Coach

It isn’t easy being the pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies. The reasons are multitudinous, and well-known to fans and physicists alike. Coors Field is simply not conducive to suppressing offense. Jim Wright is currently entrusted with helping Rockies hurlers succeed in that hitter-friendly environment. He can’t do anything about the effect of altitude on batted and thrown...

Tyler Chatwood continues his impressive season, picks up 7th win for Colorado Rockies

When the Colorado Rockies traded Chris Iannetta to the Los Angeles Angels for Tyler Chatwood, they knew they were getting a talented young arm. They may not have known just how talented he was.On Friday night at Coors Field, Chatwood added to his breakout season. He went seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits. The most impressive part of his line, however, comes next. Eleven...

Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez leaves Thursday's game early

Colorado Rockies' left fielder Carlos Gonzalez left Thursday's game in the fourth inning after aggravating his sprained middle finger on his right hand during his first at bat. As reported by Thomas Harding of MLB.com, "Gonzalez struck out in the first inning against Marlins right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, and he remained in the game defensively. But Jordan ...

Rockies 8, Brewers 3

Tyler Chatwood pitched seven strong innings and hit a two-run double to help the Rockies break out offensively, leading Colorado to an 8-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Todd Helton and Nolan Arenado each had two hits and an RBI for the Rockies, who had scored an NL-low 58 runs in their 20 previous games in July. Chatwood (7-3) allowed two runs on six hits...

Michael Cuddyer reached three times and Rex Brothers picked up his sixth save in seven chances with...

Jhoulys Chacin and the Miraculous Record

Thanks to our friends at Baseball Info Solutions, we have batted ball information dating back to 2002, which gives us data on 11 full seasons and 60% of the 2013 season. It might not be quite as catchy of an time frame as the “Dead Ball Era” or “Steroid Era”, but it’s our own little stretch of baseball that we care about. Sometimes I refer to it as the “UZR era”,...

Rockies rout Brewers as offense revives, Chatwood shines

Normally starter Tyler Chatwood's splendid 11-strikeout performance would be the story of the Rockies' victory Friday night at Coors Field. But there's a new normal for the Rockies these days which is why their nine hits in an 8-3 romp over the Brewers constitutes big news. In losing three out of four to the Marlins this week the Rockies scored a grand total of eight...

Marlins 5, Rockies 3

Rob Brantly scored on a wild pitch to break up a scoreless game in the eighth inning, Donovan Solano homered in a four-run ninth, and the Miami Marlins overcame a 93-minute rain delay to beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Thursday. The Rockies, who dropped three of four to the Marlins, lost slugger Carlos Gonzalez after the third inning when he aggravated a sprain of the middle finger...

Rockies' pitching leads way in 2-1 victory over Miami Marlins

The ill-timed slump cut so deeply it even divided the players. They weren't sure how to view this spiral. Troy Tulowitzki spoke of unclenching the fist saying they should play like the ugly guy in the fight — with nothing to lose. Grizzled and bearded Todd Helton labeled it a must-win game. Then again he will be 40 next month and doesn't have a lot of games left. In a...

Injuries in the Outfield!

Both Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies and Torii Hunter of the Detroit Tigers left their respective games today with injuries.  Gonzalez seems to re-aggravate his middle finger, which bothered him before the All-Star break and Hunter has a sore Achilles.  CarGo has been the best OF in the National League this season while Hunter continues to be one of baseballs best and...
