Erik Spoelstra nearly pulled off the perfect April Fool's joke on Gregg Popovich Sunday night, it's just too bad that the game between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat happened one day too early. Five months after Popovich famously sent home Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker on a Southwest Airlines flight out of Orlando and "rested" his star players in their match-up with Miami, Spoelstra turned the tables on Popovich Sunday night by not playing LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers. Popovich was fined 250,000 for keeping his players out of the first game and he acted just a little more than "shocked" when he was asked how not having James, Wade and Chalmers in the line-up would effect the Spurs preparations. "I can't believe anybody would do something like that," Popovich joked. "Who would think of something like that?" Popovich was asked if he'd ever do something like that. "Those kinds of things ...

Popovich on Heat Resting Stars: What Kind of S— is That?

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, gets painted as a guy who has quite the temper, but what a lot of people overlook is his endearing sense of humor. As some of you will remember, Popovich, sent some of star players home before a game against the Miami Heat in November. It was the last game of a grueling six-game road trip, but it is believed that he did it as some sort...

George Karl hopes Popovich coaches Team USA

Gregg Popovich has been talked about as the favorite to land the Team USA head coaching job this season. Doc Rivers has also been named alongside Pop, but the general consensus is that the San Antonio Spurs head coach is the most qualified and worthy of the position. You can add Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl to that mix of people who think Popovich (who served as an assistant...

LeBron, Wade out vs. Knicks

Manu Ginobili Out Weeks, Could Miss The Start Of Playoffs

Gregg Popovich revealed Sunday that Manu Ginobili’s right hamstring strain that he suffered during Friday’s game against the Clippers is going to keep him sidelined for weeks rather than days and could even cause him to miss the beginning of the playoffs depending on how he responds to treatment. LeBron, Wade, Chalmers all out vs. Spurs

If the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs meet in the NBA Finals, the film they have from their two regular-season games will be pretty worthless. On Sunday night in San Antonio, the Heat sat starters LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers. The Heat...

Chris Bosh’s Game-Winning Shot Made Possible by Erik Spoelstra’s Refreshing Decision Not to Over-Coach

If most of your basketball viewing lately has involved the NCAA Tournament, where coaches love to create the impression that there is nobody on the floor more important than them, the end of Sunday’s game between the Heat and Spurs probably looked a little strange. With less than 10 seconds to go and the Heat trailing by one, Miami coach Erik Spoelstra stood on the sideline, hands...
