Portugal stormed to success at the Men’s European Rugby Sevens finals in Russia’s Moscow at the weekend.

The 2008 champions faced France in the season’s grand finale, outlasting their opponents in the searing heat to win through 12-5.

The semi-finals proved to be tight affairs with Portugal beating Iberian rivals Spain (17-12) and the French knocking out hosts and defending champions Russia (17-12).

The Portuguese were beaten by Russia on the opening day’s Pool A clash but qualified thanks to wins against Georgia, Italy, Moldova and Poland.

Spain proved the form side in Pool B finishing unbeaten with impressive wins over The Netherlands, France, Romania and Lithuania.

Georgia will take confidence from their Plate victory with Moldova victorious in the Bowl.
