Well, that was substantially less fun. The Giants got just three hits and no runs against Randall “who the hell is Randall Delgado” Delgado. And then the weeeeird ninth inning. Unfortunately, the takeaway from the game will likely be the sixth inning, when Buster Posey singled and then was thrown out at home on a Pablo Sandoval double. Tim Flannery waved Posey all the way in on the play – with none out – and perfect throws from Pollock and Pennington and a great tag by Montero got Posey by a few inches. All in all an impressive defensive play and, given the game situation, Flannery probably should’ve held Posey at third. You can blame the Giants’ recent ineffectiveness at getting runs in from third, or Pence’s inconsistent ways, or Flannery’s generally aggressive tactics at third. Either way, it was pretty frustrating. Instead, I’d like to take this opportunity to gush about how good Madison Bumgarner is. Even when our rotation completely fell to pieces, Bumgarner stayed strong. Tod...

Sea gull problem stumps Giants

Even the sea gulls are throwing the struggling San Francisco Giants for a loss this year. Giants officials trying to find humane solution to the worsening onslaught of the birds at home games are stumped, the San Jose Mercury News reported Saturday. The gulls have routinely showed up at the end of night games since AT&T Park along San Francisco Bay opened in 2000. But it appears...

Brian Wilson to throw for teams Thursday; considered 'MLB ready'

After undergoing his second Tommy John surgery last year, Brian Wilson is trying to make a comeback to the big leagues. He has thrown for his former team, the San Francisco Giants and reportedly looked very good. Wilson, according to Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News, is planning to throw for teams in Los Angeles on Thursday. While it isn't known what teams will show up,...

Lincecum hopes to build on first career no-hitter

Tim Lincecum has tweaked his delivery, altered his workload between starts, changed his diet, and even his hair, trying just about anything in recent years to rediscover his old Cy Young form. Maybe his first career no-hitter will do the trick at last. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner will pitch again Monday night for the Giants against the Cincinnati Reds, giving the home...

'Bubbleboat' visits McCovey Cove during SF Giants game (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. The "Bubbleboat", the watercraft designed by artist Eric Staller that resembles a floating UFO, returned to McCovey Cove during Friday night's San Francisco Giants game. The Bubbleboat, decorated with 594 colorful lights and featuring a bubble cockpit for the pilot, has stopped by a few Giants games this year and is certainly...

Posey connected for his 14th homer in the fifth inning. Cain (6-6) allowed two runs in five-plus innings after failing to make it out...

Brian Wilson throws for Righetti, Giants

The most famously bearded relief pitcher in Giants history threw another session off a mound on Monday, but that wasn’t the most interesting part. It was the guests in attendance. Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti stood in the batter’s box for most of the session, held at the University of San Francisco, a source tells CSN Bay Area. Giants bullpen catcher Billy Hayes caught...

Affeldt Injury Could Push Giants’ Reliever Need and Other Injury Updates

The San Francisco Giants began with a promising injury update but ended with worrisome news about Jeremy Affeldt on Saturday night. Good news first: Ryan Vogelsong threw to Shawon Dunston and Roberto Kelly with results that satisfied manager Bruce Bochy at AT&T Park. After 35 off the mound and 40 in the bullpen, Vogelsong said he felt good. He could start pitching to hitters...

Buster Posey hit a two-run homer and Matt Cain bounced back from two rough starts to earn his first win in more than a month as the San Francisco Giants beat the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks for a second straight night, winning 4-3 on Saturday. Posey connected for his 14th homer in the fifth inning. Cain (6-6) allowed two runs in five-plus innings after failing to make it out...

D-backs look to avoid sweep, stay atop division

As bad as the Giants were in June and earlier this month, a recent surge has them back within striking distance in the NL West. They hope to make up more ground Sunday as Madison Bumgarner tries to clinch a sweep of the division-leading Diamondbacks at AT&T Park. The Giants (45-51) followed a 10-17 month of June by starting 1-8 in July, but they won three of four before the...

Jeremy Affeldt to miss 4-6 weeks with groin strain

Source: Jennifer Stewart/Getty Images North America The San Francisco Giants expect to be without reliever Jeremy Affeldt for four to six weeks. Affeldt, 34, will head to the disabled list with a sore left groin. The left hander had been pitching with soreness for weeks and was forced to leave Saturday’s game after re-aggravating it. The Giants will be left with Javier Lopez and...

Most Epic Troll Award Ever

Okay, so the stats will officially count this as a home game, so final splits will show that the Giants played 82 games at home and 80 on the road. And in reality, of course, the game is being played in San Francisco. So apparently this is just like an Elseworlds one-shot baseball game, where the home team wears grey and bats first. … Beats the majority of alternate uniforms around...

Ziegler comes out of break as D-backs' closer

PHOENIX -- When the Diamondbacks parted for the All-Star break, one of their stated goals was determining a bullpen configuration. They came out of it with Brad Ziegler as the closer. Ziegler was given the D-backs' only save opportunity in the first four games following the break, and he converted it while giving up an unearned run in the ninth inning of a 3-1 victory over the...

Offense woes continue as D-Backs lose division lead

Coming in to the game Monday night, the Diamondbacks knew what the Dodgers did. It was a blowout in Toronto in favor of Los Angeles.

Braun suspension offers little solace for D-Backs fans

And this is how the first shoe fell. Today, it was announced that Ryan Braun would be suspended the remaining 65 games of this season without pay, making it the costliest suspension in baseball history, yet allowing Braun to be suspended in an already lost season just to be back on Opening Day next year. And immediately, Diamondbacks fans were angered, as if the hornet’s nest had...
