ARLINGTON, Texas Jurickson Profar, who has no professional experience as an outfielder, gets his first start in left field for the Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
Profar has been working with outfield coach Gary Pettis for about two weeks. Pettis let Texas manager Ron Washington know Profar was ready to go.
"We'll give him a shot tonight," Washington said. "There's a lefty going (Dallas Kuechel) so there's a chance to get him some at-bats. We'll see how he does."
Washington had wanted to get Profar in a game late to get acclimated to the outfield but the chance never arose. The Rangers led 10-0 Friday and Washington planned to put him in the seventh inning, but Houston scored four in the sixth and Washington changed his mind.
Washington said not to read too much into Profar starting in left over David Murphy. He just saw Saturday's game as a chance to get him in a game.
Profar, who has played second, short and third for the Rangers, is ready for the adjustments he has to make...
