ARLINGTON, Texas Jurickson Profar, who has no professional experience as an outfielder, gets his first start in left field for the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Profar has been working with outfield coach Gary Pettis for about two weeks. Pettis let Texas manager Ron Washington know Profar was ready to go. "We'll give him a shot tonight," Washington said. "There's a lefty going (Dallas Kuechel) so there's a chance to get him some at-bats. We'll see how he does." Washington had wanted to get Profar in a game late to get acclimated to the outfield but the chance never arose. The Rangers led 10-0 Friday and Washington planned to put him in the seventh inning, but Houston scored four in the sixth and Washington changed his mind. Washington said not to read too much into Profar starting in left over David Murphy. He just saw Saturday's game as a chance to get him in a game. Profar, who has played second, short and third for the Rangers, is ready for the adjustments he has to make in the outfield. "The balls off the bat," he said. "I'm confident. I worked a lot out there so I'm confident. The thing I've been working on is reading the ball off the bat, a jam shot of if they square it up. I think I'm good on it."

Nelson Cruz Grand Slam Leads Rangers in 10-5 Victory

It was his only hit of the evening, but Nelson Cruz‘s grand slam in the bottom of the second inning proved to be the deciding dagger that would help propel the Texas Rangers to an eventual 10-5 rout of the Houston Astros on Friday. After an Elvis Andrus single and a pair of walks drawn by Ian Kinsler and David Murphy, Cruz stepped to the plate with two out and took a 1-2 pitch...

Rangers likely to activate Joakim Soria this weekend

Earlier this week, there was talk that the Texas Rangers could activate former Kansas City Royals closer Joakim Soria from the disabled list this weekend. Before they considered such a move, Soria had to prove he could make it through appearances on back-to-back days. He did so Wednesday and Thursday, and if he responds well today he should join the Rangers over the weekend, according...

Manny’s back stateside, hilarity sure to ensue

The Texas Rangers have signed former Red Sox and Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez to a minor league contract, and he’ll start with the AAA Round Rock in central Texas tomorrow. Ramirez has spent the last few months playing for the EDA Rhinos of China’s Professional Baseball League in Taiwan, making a tiny fraction of what he became accustomed to in the majors. Manny reports that...

Will Manny Ramirez be Manny Ramirez again?? I don’t think so.

The answer to that one is a resounding “YES”!!   Only it won’t be the Manny who batted .396 with 17 homers and 53 RBI’s for the Dodgers five seasons ago. THAT hitter is a figment of Jon Daniels’ overheated imagination. The 41 year old has-been will more closely resemble the scrub who struck out 23 times in 69 official at-bats  for the White Sox in 2010—with no power...

Manny Ramirez is looking for another chance with the Rangers Triple-A team

As a Boston Red Sox fan I have to say Manny Ramirez had some very clutch moments in his time in Boston. 2004 was a special year for Red Sox fans and Manny was very instrumental that year to help Boston reverse the curse. When talk of steroids and PED’s circled around his name the Red Sox front office was looking to part ways with Manny. Ramirez moved to Los Angeles to play with...
