Raiders name Greg Olson offensive coordinator

Greg Olson The Oakland Raiders have hired Olson to be their new offensive coordinator. He replaces Greg Knapp, who fired on December 31, 2012 after a season as the Raiders offensive coordinator. Knapp has been recently hired as the Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach. Olson spent this past season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, as their quarterbacks coach. When Mike Mularkey was fired as their head coach after a season, Olson lost his job with the team. Prior to coming to the Jaguars, he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was hired in 2008, as their quarterbacks coach. Then, in September 2009, he was named the team’s offensive coordinator, before being fired in January 2012. Before joining the Bucs, he was the St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator in 2006 and 2007. The 2006 Rams became just the fourth team in NFL history to produce a 4,000-yard passer (Marc Bulger), a 1,500-yard rusher (Steven Jackson) and two 1,000-yard receivers (Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce). In 2004, he was the quarterbacks coach with the Detroit Lions, before being promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2005. In 2004, Olson took over as the offensive coordinator with three games remaining in the season and the Lions offense went on to average 403.6 total yards per game. In 2005, Olson was named offensive coordinator of the Lions in Week 11. He was the quarterbacks coach with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. He went back to the college ranks as the tight ends/recruiting coordinator at Purdue in 2002. He was then hired by the Chicago Bears as their quarterbacks coach in 2003. He was the quarterbacks coach from 1997 through 2000 at Purdue. He was a graduate assistant coach from 1987 through 1989 at Washington State.
