Injured Ravens starting weak-side linebacker Jameel McClain has accepted a $1.5 million pay cut reducing his base salary for this season from an originally scheduled $3 million to $1.5 million. The pay cut was negotiated Wednesday and processed today. McClain's salary-cap figure dropped from $4.2 million to $2.7 million and the Ravens now have $5.529 million available under the NFL salary cap limit of $123 million following the changes to his contract and a pair of $1.005 million deals for tight end Dallas Clark and wide receiver Brandon Stokley. The reason for the cut in pay stems from his potential unavailability for this season due to a spinal cord contusion suffered last December against the Washington Redskins. The Ravens haven't cleared McClain to play medically because a small sign of the bruise is still evident on recent X-rays placing him on the physically unable to perform list.

5 Good Reasons The Baltimore Ravens Will Miss The Playoffs

In a league where parity is becoming more and more of a reality, almost any team can make a run for the playoffs, especially if the right players get hot at the right time. Baltimore did that last year, as the Giants did the year before that. And these borderline teams often find themselves on the outside looking in. But it may take more than just being hot to get into the playoffs...

A.Q. Shipley will start Thursday for the Ravens

Perhaps one of the more under-the-radar competitions in the NFL right now is the race for the starting center job in Baltimore. With veteran Matt Birk retiring earlier in the offseason, the Ravens brought in A.Q. Shipley to compete with Gino Gradkowski for the position. Shipley will receive his first opportunity to start a game for the Ravens this Thursday versus the Falcons after...

Ravens haven't ruled out Dennis Pitta for the season

The Ravens haven't completely ruled out the possibility however slim that starting tight end Dennis Pitta might potentially be able to return late in the season from a dislocated and fractured right hip. Ravens coach John Harbaugh had previously said that Pitta would be unable to come back this season and wasn't even a candidate for the injured reserve-designated to return...

Baltimore Ravens 2013: Most Overrated and Underrated Players

Joe Flacco can have just about anything he wants right now.The Super Bowl MVP, the leader of the Baltimore Ravens' offense and the man armed with a new contract ($120 million) that he said was more about principle than money is sitting on top of the word right now.And he should be. Ravens still hope Dennis Pitta can return

The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens have kept the door ajar for tight end Dennis Pitta to return for the 2013 season, for now. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have not ruled out Pitta playing this year, due in part by learning that Pitta’s injury to his hip was a “clean” break that caused no ligament or cartilage damage.  Early in...

Ravens seek cure for inconsistent offense

With three weeks left before the start of the regular season, the Baltimore Ravens are still searching for production and consistency from their first-team offense. The starting unit produced only three first downs and 13 yards rushing Thursday night in a preseason game against Atlanta. A 77-yard pass from Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith was the lone highlight from an offense that last...

Ravens 27, Falcons 23

If the goal in preseason games was solely to win, the Baltimore Ravens would have been delighted. The main objective is to get ready for the regular season, and that's why the Atlanta Falcons almost certainly derived far more satisfaction from Thursday night's preseason game - even though the Ravens pulled out a 27-23 victory. Matt Ryan threw for 97 yards and a touchdown...

Dennis Pitta progressing well, could still play this season

The Baltimore Ravens still haven’t placed tight end Dennis Pitta on season-ending injured reserve after he fractured and dislocated his hip a couple of weeks ago. Atlanta Falcons Preseason Takeaways: Four Downs vs Baltimore Ravens

The Atlanta Falcons had a tough task in traveling to take on the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in their preseason home opener, but with the exception of the 27-23 score in Baltimore's favor, the team more than met the challenges. While the second preseason game is still more about talent evaluation than game planning, it was obvious that both the Atlanta offense and defense were getting

Report: Willie Taggart Woke Up The USF Team At 3 AM For Practice This Morning

Willie Taggart is as unconventional of a coach as you’ll find, and that really is an awesome thing. Today, according to TampaBay.com, he woke his football players up at 3:00 a.m. to get ready for an early-morning workout. He met with Ravens coach John Harbaugh last week, who encouraged him to “get his team comfortable with being uncomfortable” — this is just one crack at...
