The Boston Red Sox have made headlines over their pursuit of Mike Napoli, Nick Swisher and Giancarlo Stanton recently, but that doesn’t mean they’re only concentrating on offense. The Red Sox have been calling agents about starters they would be able to sign to shorter-term contracts, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. The team does not want a pitcher that would be tied up for six or seven years, and could be looking at more of a No. 5 starter than a top-of-a-rotation guy. Some names that Cafardo mentioned the Red Sox could go after were Edwin Jackson and Anibal Sanchez. Cafardo specifically said the Sox likely won’t be going after a Zack Greinke-type. Watch the video above to see Cafardo discuss the Red Sox pitching possibilities with NESN’s Adam Pellerin from NESN Daily.

Report: Mike Napoli Meeting With Red Sox This Weekend in Boston

The Red Sox have long been reported to be interested in catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli, and now it sounds like they’re ready to show him up close what the team can offer. Report: Red Sox View Mike Napoli as Priority in Free Agency to Fill First Base Vacancy

Mike Napoli sits atop of Boston’s wish list. According to the Boston Herald, Napoli is reportedly the Red Sox’ first option in free agency. If the club manages to reach an agreement with Napoli, they’d likely pencil him in at first base as opposed to catcher. Napoli, who has already convened with the Red Sox and Mariners, is scheduled to sit down with the Rangers on Wednesday...

Free agent Napoli seeks 4-year deal

The Mike Napoli Victory Tour started in Seattle, moved on to Boston and will continue in Texas and perhaps parts unknown. Pretty impressive for a guy who isn't a regular catcher, appeared in only 108 games last season and batted just .227, albeit with an .812 OPS. Napoli, 31, is an interesting free agent, a catcher for most of his career, a part-time first baseman in the past...

Mike Napoli Hasn’t Been Re-Signed by Rangers Due to Down Season, Need for Better Defensive Catcher (Video)

It seems that every MLB team is pining after free agent first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli this offseason, so you have to wonder why the Texas Rangers don’t seem to be rushing to re-sign their 2012 All Star. The Rangers didn’t offer Napoli a qualifying offer this year after he rejected a three-year, $38 million extension last offseason. Napoli is meeting with the Rangers this...

Mike Napoli May Not Be Marquee Free Agent, But He’s Likely Best Fit for Red Sox’ First Base Needs

Have you ever saved up for something for a really long time, only to smash open the piggy bank, run out the door and find out that what you wanted isn’t there anymore? That’s sort of where the Red Sox are this free agent season, where they’ve cleared a ton of cap space but don’t have much of a market to go spending in. They want to make wise choices, and they want to contend...

Red Sox Free Agency: Nick Swisher

The world keeps spinning. The Red Sox offseason is spinning as well. The speed of both varies greatly. The Red Sox have met with free agent first baseman and catcher Mike Napoli while also signing outfielder Jonny Gomes. They will continue looking at other outfield options at the moment hoping that they can find [...]

The Missing Yankees of 2007-2009

As we wait for the right-field situation to resolve itself, I frequently find myself frustrated that there is no Babe DiMaggio ready to take over the position from Nick Swisher — or ready to take over any other position, for that matter. Now, I know that Babe DiMaggio types are hard to come by, but [...]
