Steven Wright has bounced around the minors for years. Now, as Wright embarks on another spring training, he’s turning to someone who carved out a very successful big league career for some advice.
Wright, who was acquired by the Red Sox last July, will soon meet Tim Wakefield. The two presumably will discuss the art of the knuckleball, which Wright began throwing as his primary pitch back in 2011. Wakefield, of course, won 200 games with the knuckleball as his go-to pitch, so it’s understandable that Wright wants to pick the former Red Sox hurler’s brain a little bit.
“I’ve talked to him here and there, just text messages and stuff,” Wright said, according to the Boston Herald. “He wants to watch me throw and see, and then, he’ll probably make some notes and I’ll have some questions. Right now, I’m blank on what I would ask him because it’s something where you go off of what you feel that day. It’s just nice to get another view in what he did to make himself successful and for him to

Your Morning Dump...Where Nava could be in the mix at first
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
That could be an important spot, since starting first baseman Mike
Napoli is not a great defender and the Sox would like someone who could
serve as a late-inning defensive replacement. Also, Napoli'...
Junichi Tazawa could be the ace the Red Sox have been searching for
If you look closely to the Red Sox pitching staff you could find one hidden gem, without much fanfare.
26 year old Junichi Tazawa is now three years removed from Tommy John surgery, and maybe he is the ace the Sox have been searching for.
Back in 2007 Craig Shipley and Jon Dibble of the Red Sox were the first scouts to see Tazawa in an industrial league in Japan. One game they...
Will Middlebrooks Says He Loves ‘Pressure’ of Playing With Red Sox, Likes It When Fans Push Team
Will Middlebrooks is going into his first full year with the Red Sox, taking over as the everyday third baseman and putting together the pieces that he hopes will make him a staple in the Boston lineup for years to come. When it comes to who he’s styling his game after, he points to a player who will be situated very close to him in the lineup: David Ortiz. But it’s not necessarily...
Andrew Bailey Hits ‘Shot of the Century’ to Defeat David Ortiz in Beautyrest Baggo Classic (Video)
The first round of the Beautyrest Baggo Classic is nearing its conclusion, and Andrew Bailey may have provided us with the highlight of the competition.
The reliever knocked in a pair of bean bags with a single toss on Monday, making up for his one-point effort in the first round and vaulting him into a tie with Mike Napoli for third place. The second man to go, David Ortiz, may...
Local player ready for his shot with the Red Sox
Pitcher Terry Doyle grew up as a baseball phenom in Salem, New Hampshire. The town once rallied around the young star, who they also affectionately knew of because he worked at his father's local convenience store. His local fame was at its prime as he was selected to the All-State team as a junior, then proceeded to go 10-0 as a senior. He then took his talents to Chestnut...
Dustin Pedroia May Have Joined Twitter, According to Will Middlebrooks and Andrew Bailey
Is Dustin Pedroia finally on Twitter? That’s the scuttlebutt on Tuesday morning.
According to a tweet by Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks, the Laser Show is in fact finally on board with the social media network — but not without some controversy.
Alright people. Pedroia has a twitter. @15Lasershow . Idk if the world is ready for this..... But I am.— Will Middlebrooks...
Fantasy Baseball 2013 Player Profiles: Jacoby Ellsbury
Let’s get this out in the open right away. If you’re new to the site, you probably don’t know that I predicted that Jacoby Ellsbury would be the Fantasy Baseball MVP in 2012. Make fun of me if you will, but know that I wasn’t afraid to eat those words.
Actually, go ahead and mock me if you want. Sure, he had a fantastic year in 2011, but he...
Shane Victorino Looks to Bounce Back, While Helping Red Sox Rebound as Well
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Like the Boston Red Sox, Shane Victorino is looking to rebound.
The Flyin’ Hawaiian was dealt from Philadelphia to the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer and wound up hitting .255 — 20 points below his career average — with 11 homers and 39 RBIs.
“There was a lot on my plate,” he said. “There were things you can’t control. And I try to control those...

Vote: Which Red Sox Offseason Addition Are You Most Excited About?
The Red Sox’ offseason may have lacked that one big, defining move, but all in all it was a very successful winter in Boston.
There wasn’t a Zack Greinke or Josh Hamilton coming the way of the Sox, but the team did make itself significantly better than 2012. In lieu of high-priced shocker, the Red Sox made a litany of cost-effective moves which shored up key positions that were...
Pedro Martinez to work with Felix Doubront
When the announcement of Pedro Martinez as a special assistant to the General Manager of the Boston Red Sox occurred my faith in both the management and team was restored. Now that he is being assigned to work with individual players my lost faith in the pitching rotation is being restored. Felix Doubront came to spring training with a sore arm and overweight. Doubront is a crucial...

Is The N.Y. Yankee/ Boston Red Sox Rivalry Dying?
Hi, my name is Jeff Schubert; I am a lifelong New York Yankee fan, Boston Red Sox hater. (I feel like some sort of support group should over enthusiastically respond, HI JEFF!). Maybe it’s because I’m over 30… Okay over 35, but the rivalry just doesn’t seem to have the bite it used to. And we all should have seen it coming.
Firstly, kudos to the national sports media...
David Ross Excited to Make Return to Boston Five Years After Short Stint With Team (Video)
Many may not remember, but this season is not David Ross‘ first rodeo with the Red Sox.
The veteran catcher spent about a month with the team back in 2008, when the team reached the American League Championship Series before falling to Tampa Bay in seven games. Ross told NESN’s Tom Caron and Peter Gammons that he was able to learn valuable lessons from Jason Varitek during his...
Ben Cherington gives his opinion on Jacoby Ellsbury as a distraction
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington took all of 38
seconds to discuss Jacoby Ellsbury and the possibility that the injury-prone
center fielder could be a distraction to the team this season. Cherington gave a
canned and somewhat boring answer when asked about his prized leadoff hitter,
but that’s not to say Cherington isn't thinking long term. With Ellsbury under
a one...
