Photo Courtesy of the International Prospect League Conor Frederick Contributing Writer According to MLB.com, the Red Sox have signed Dominican prospect Yoan Aybar. Aybar is 16 years old and checks in at 6'2", 165 pounds. He hit's lefty, plays center field, and apparently has huge upside potential, according to MLB.com. According to MLB.com, he is a good contact hitter who can hit for power as well. He also has above average arm strength, according to MLB.com. That's all well and good, but can he pitch with that above average arm strength he has? Probably not, but we do need more pitching, not another outfielder. Granted, he's not going to be in the majors right away, but I'd still rather see them sign a pitching prospect. Maybe the organization is planning for the future if they lose out on re-signing Jacoby Ellsbury. Or they could have seen something that they haven't disclosed yet when they scouted him. I couldn't find too much, other that wha...

Andrew Miller To Have Season-Ending Surgery: What Now For the Red Sox?

Well this isn’t good. During Saturday’s game against the Angels, Red Sox left-handed reliever Andrew Miller was pulled with an injured left foot, unable to walk off without assistance. Today, news has come down that Miller had sustained significant damage to the ligament in his foot, and would have season-ending surgery. Make no mistake; while Miller may not be a big-name star...

Boston Red Sox Recall Pedro Beato And Steven Wright

The Boston Red Sox have recalled right-handed reliever Pedro Beato and knuckle ball right-handed reliever Steven Wright from their Triple-A Pawtucket farm club. To make room on the roster, the Red Sox have optioned right-handed starters Alfredo Aceves and Allen Webster to the same minor league affiliate. Look for Beato and Wright to work the middle innings with Wright having an outside...

Red Sox add to bullpen, call up Wright, Beato

The Boston Red Sox added needed depth to its bullpen calling up right-handers Steven Wright and Pedro Beato. The Red Sox made the moves Wednesday before facing the Seattle Mariners. Boston optioned starter Allen Webster and reliever Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket to clear roster spots. The decision to send out Webster leaves the Red Sox needing a starter for Sunday's...

Jonny Gomes More than Just a Body to Fill the Roster

I can admit it: I was wrong about Jonny Gomes. After being critical of the Red Sox signing the outfielder in the offseason, he has proven me wrong by playing a big role for the first place team. Last week he hit his second walk off home run, and his third walk off hit of the season. I did say he was just a reliable body the Sox signed, but he has played in 63 games and has delivered...

Red Sox Face Questions in Bullpen, Team Could Become Active As Trade Deadline Nears (Video)

Just when it seemed like the Red Sox were finally out of the woods when it came to reliever questions, a dark cloud settled back over the bullpen. Reliever Andrew Miller will undergo a season-ending foot surgery to repair ligament damage in his left foot, leaving Boston with Craig Breslow as the only left-handed reliever on the roster. Sox general manager Ben Cherington talked with...

In Depth With Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Jarrod Saltalamacchia has come a long way behind the plate. “Salty” isn’t among the elite at his position, but he’s developed into a solid defensive catcher. He is certainly among the most cerebral. Once looked at as an offense-first backstop, he is playing a key role in the success of a Boston Red Sox pitching staff that is exceeding expectations. Originally a first-round...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Rookie Report, Week 15: Iglesias, Arcia, Green

Lost somehow amid Puig-mania is the superb first half Boston’s Jose Iglesias is having. Take that and shove it, East coast bias truthers! In 166 plate appearances this season Iglesias has put up a .387/.442/.497 line with the OBP boosted by five hit-by-pitches. His OBP against lefties and righties is above .400, as well as in each completed month of the season so far. Now owned...

Red Sox Recap: Sox survive Seattle slugfest

The Guru Contributing Writer So much for Seattle's Safeco Field being a "pitchers park". The Red Sox and Mariners combined for 28 hits, 19 runs and six home runs as the Red Sox pulled out the 11-8 win. David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino and Jackie Bradley Jr all went deep for the Red Sox. Check out JBJ's home run that proved to be...

3 Stars of the Game: Game 90

Ryan MacLeod Contributing Writer The stage was set perfectly for the Red Sox to show America that they are indeed the best team in baseball, the Sunday Night game on ESPN. Its the game that everyone that is a baseball fan watches, and the Sox came out flat, getting only 5 hits in 9 innings, scoring 0 runs. Lackey pitched well, a good showing from him back in his old stomping grounds...

Game 93: Red Sox at Mariners - Sleepless (while the Sox are) in Seattle

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer If you have been staying up the past several games watch the Red Sox play on the West Coast, then kudos to you. Not only have the nights been long, but the games haven’t been great, especially if you’re a Sox fan watching your team get off to a 2-3 start to midway through this 10-game trip. Last night was much better, as the Boston Red Sox...

Jason Bay Recalls Memories With Red Sox, Calls Transition From National League to American League ‘Tough’ (Video)

When the Red Sox traded away Manny Ramirez, they received Jason Bay. Bay reported to Boston from the Pittsburgh Pirates immediately and was in the Sox lineup the next day. He had a remarkable first few games with the ball club and, though he was only with Boston for two seasons, Bay has fond memories with the team. Bay talked about them with NESN’s Jamie Erdahl before the Sox matched...
