Found January 15, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings will begin their last day of training camp held at Compuware Arena this morning bright and early, taking to the ice at 9:30 AM for a 45-minute-long practice before heading home for a game-day nap and returning to the rink (again, the event is open to the public, admission is free and parking is free) for a 6 PM Red vs. White scrimmage between members of the Red Wings and Griffins' organizations (which will air on Fox Sports Detroit and WXYT, and if you are going, plan on showing up closer to 4 than when the doors open at 5, because general admission in a 3,400-seat rink means first come, best seat). The format allows the Wings to both begin to re-acclimate their bodies to a "morning skate and game" format while also allowing the players to finally compete against each other--and the prospects who want to take some of their jobs sooner, and some of their jobs later--before enjoying a welcome respite from on-ice work to rest those groins on Wednes...

Incredible shootout goal from KHL

After watching Pavel Datsyuk dazzle in the shootout during the skills competition on Saturday, Novosibirsk Siber forward Jori Lehtera had this fantastic move during his penalty shot on Sunday.  The goalie assumed that when he put the puck through his legs that he would pull the puck far side, and he paid for it.  This was a fantastic and unique move that you might see more of...

Wings notebook: Injury opens second day of camp

PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- The Red Wings have had their fair share of injuries the last few years so with the compressed season about to start Saturday, they're not going to take any chances. Mikael Samuelsson joined Darren Helm on the sidelines Monday due to a tender groin. "I had nothing to do with that," coach Mike Babcock said of keeping Samuelsson off-ice. "Groins...

Wings get reps in during Red-White game

PLYMOUTH, Mich. A capacity crowd, a new captain and the NHL back at it made it a successful night at Compuware Arena in Plymouth. A crowd estimated at 4,000 came out to watch the Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins play in the Red-White Game Tuesday night. There were so many fans who came out that they had to turn some away when the parking lot was full just after the gates opened...

Step up or else for Red Wings' defensemen

PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- Coach Mike Babcock jokingly asked him to, but Nick Lidstrom isn't coming out of retirement. Brad Stuart is also no longer in Detroit, having returned to the San Jose Sharks so he can be with his family. So where does that leave the Wings' defense? Many people around the league are predicting a hard fall for the Wings based on those losses. But Niklas...

Video: Henrik Zetterberg Talks to the NHL Network About Being Named Captain

The Detroit Red Wings, as expected, named Henrik Zetterberg captain on Tuesday, making the veteran forward just the third team captain since 1986. Zetterberg replaced Nicklas Lidstrom in that role — Lidstrom retired last summer following the Wings’ playoff loss to Nashville. Zetterberg talked with the NHL Network about what the honor meant and how he expects to lead in the locker...

Red Wings pre-Zetterberg announcement mashup: Datsyuk muses about Russian return, injury updates etc

Wakiji: Red Wings’ Kronwall, Babcock, Zetterberg believe their blueline will prove worth

Fox Sports Detroit's Dana Wakiji wrote an excellent article discussing the state of the Red Wings' defense, speaking to Wings coach Mike Babcock, new captain Henrik Zetterberg, youngsters Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl, would-be top pair defenseman Jonathan Ericsson and alternate captain Niklas Kronwall about the state of the team's somewhat thin defensive corps. She...

Henrik Zetterberg to be named Red Wings’ captain Tuesday

Via foxsports.com Seven years ago, Nicklas Lidstrom took the torch from 20-year captain from Steve Yzerman. On Tuesday, Henrik Zetterberg will be taking the torch from Lidstrom. The Red Wings will make the official announcement in a press conference Tuesday shortly before 5pm.  Teammate Dan Cleary said that Zetterberg is the right choice.  ”He would be a unanimous vote in here...

Captain Zetterberg

To the surprise of no one, Zetterberg is the new captain of the Detroit Red Wings. Hank is now the 3rd Red Wing to wear the C since 1986. Pretty remarkable to think that since that time, there have been 5 U.S. presidents but only 3 Red Wings have worn the C. From the Red Wings Twitter feed: "It means a lot being a captain and being the captain of this organization. Looking...
