The move by the Reds to sign Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman in January 2010 has proved to be a good one. Now, it appears as though the Reds are dipping into Cuba for baseball talent once again.
Baseball America reports that Cincinnati has inked 20-year-old outfielder Raydel Medina for $400,000. A source close to the deal says the signing is still awaiting approval from the...
I had planned to run this on Monday morning, but I hit the road and forgot to schedule the post to publish. I will have up another scouting notebook later...
Former baseball great Pete Rose completely ruined his legacy over gambling, just about the worst thing you could do while being a player in the sport, at least according to the MLB, who never forgive him for his misdeeds. Many things are shunned upon in baseball, steroid use being the most popular, but players are given second chances all the time. Gambling doesn’t have that luxury.
Over the next few days I’ll be taking a look at guys that are MLB superstars, franchise players and all-around studs. All 30 teams in the MLB would take these guys in a heartbeat, yet their owners in standard format fantasy leagues are likely left disappointed this season by what was once a no-doubt sure pick. We’ll leave out guys that have been riddled with injuries, and focus...
CHICAGO (AP) -- Mat Latos threw eight scoreless innings, and Brandon Phillips hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 2-0 win over All-Star Travis Wood and the Chicago Cubs on Monday night.
Latos, who had been 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA since the All-Star break, allowed six hits and struck out nine for the Reds, who gained a half-game on idle Pittsburgh...
CHICAGO (AP) --Bronson Arroyo pitched seven crisp innings, Todd Frazier homered and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 5-0 on Wednesday to complete a three-game series sweep.
Arroyo (11-9) allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked none in his second straight win. The crafty right-hander retired his first nine batters and faced the minimum through six innings.
Bronson Arroyo Alfredo Simon and Jonathan Broxton combined for a two-hit shutout as the Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 5-0 before a crowd of 33642 on a cool breezy day at Wrigley Field.
The win completed the Reds' three-game sweep of the Cubs. It was the final meeting between the teams in Chicago this year. The Reds are going to miss the Friendly Confines: They won nine of 10 here...
CHICAGO (AP) -- Shin-Soo Choo hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the 11th inning and J.J. Hoover provided terrific relief work on his 26th birthday, helping the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 6-4 on Tuesday night. With no outs and the bases loaded, Choo jumped on the first pitch he got from Eduardo Sanchez (0-1) and lined it into the gap in right-center. Ryan Ludwick and Devin...
The Reds played long enough Tuesday night to allow the Chicago Cubs to self-destruct.
A couple of walks a wild pitch and an error loaded the bases for Shin-Soo Choo in the top of the 11th inning. Choo delivered a two-run single to lift the Reds to a 6-4 11-inning win over the Cubs before a few stranglers from the crowd of 33286 at Wrigley Field.
Choo was 0-for-4 on the night and...
The Reds have had a great season, and all they have to show for it is looking up at two teams above them in the standings. At least they have a relatively solid grip on that last wild card spot, though that (thankfully) isn't as great of a position as a team would like. Joey Votto is having another MVP-worthy year but will likely be ignored in the voting if the Reds don't...
I know this probably isn’t going to be a popular opinion around here, so let me preface it by saying this — I think Shin-Soo Choo is pretty good. However, I don’t think he’s the type of player the Mets should be allocating their available funds to. I know Mets fans are clamoring to root for a winner. I don’t, however, think the Mets need to go out and spend money this offseason...
