Scott Rolen hustles, helps team win! The Reds (66-41) keep rolling and finding ways to win with hustle, defense, and pitching, while scoring just enough runs. Mike Leake fought hard through 6 innings and the bullpen shut the Pittsburgh Pirates (60-46) down. Miguel Cairo and Scott Rolen helped the team with key hits, smart base running and great defense. Here is the usual quick recap.  The Good -Drew Stubbs got 2 base hits and scored 2 runs. -Jay Bruce scored a run with a hit - Scott Rolen provided the winning run with a Pete Rose style head first slide into 3rd for a triple in the 8th inning. Give the old man credit for hustling! He certainly has been a huge part of the Reds success recently. He also had 2 RBI. - Todd Frazier had a hit and 2 RBI -Miguel Cairo had a key stolen base and a huge defensive stop late in the game.  The Bad - It only gets more and more difficult to point out anything bad in how the Reds are playing as they continue to wi...

Three causes for concern for the rest of the Reds season

Don't be fooled by the team's hot play as of late. Veteran Scott Rolen knows there's a long way still to go. Let me first begin by saying that I consider myself to be as optimistic as they come. That is, I choose to look at the glass half-full and always opt to look at things in a positive light. With that in mind, I also consider myself to be relatively realistic...

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle ejected against Reds

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle has been ejected in the second inning against Cincinnati after both benches were warned following the second Pirates batter to be hit by a pitch in two nights. Pitching with a 2-1 lead Saturday night, Reds starter Mike Leake plunked Josh Harrison with two outs and nobody on base. Harrison and Leake had a brief verbal altercation, prompting plate umpire...

Reds' Bailey can't match Pirates starter Burnett

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A.J. Reds Shutout Bucs in Series Opener

Final: Reds 3, Pirates 0 WP: Mat Latos (10-3, 3.94 ERA) LP: Wandy Rodriguez (7-10, 3.82 ERA) SV: Aroldis Chapman (24, 1.37 ERA) The Reds capitalized on two mistakes by Rodriguez, and that was enough as the Pirates’ offense was nonexistent with only one base runner made it to third base. Chris Heisey hit an inside-the-park homer in the second inning to give the Reds a 1-0 lead....

Reds keep rolling

It was another frustrating night in Cincinnati for the Pirates, as they came up short in both the beanball/intimidation/whatever-you-want-to-call-it battle as well as, you know, the game itself. The Bucs are in danger of being swept in the weekend series, and they now trail the Reds by 5.5 games. Their wild-card edge for the second spot is also down to just 2.5 over the Cardinals...

Game 106: Reds 5 Pirates 4

If the first game of this three-game set was marked by the Reds getting breaks, the second was marked by the Pirates' giving breaks to them. An error by Pedro Alvarez. A bad night at the plate from Andrew McCutchen. A bad read by McCutchen on Scott Rolen's fly ball in the eighth inning. A huge tactical mistake by Jeff Bannister. The Pirates bounced back from most of these...
