Jason Campbell was to be the focus of a Hog Heaven story this week. The thrust was to be how close he was to his break-out year because of stability in other parts of the organization.Mark Steven at The OM Field wrote one of those "I wish I said that" posts that nailed it. In One Split Second Away, Steven ticks off all of the collateral issues that should lead to a stronger team...and a stronger performance by Campbell. The ownership tries, even if they suffer occasional "cranial flatulence."The coaching staff has a year under their belts. That's a bigger factor than most appreciate. The defense didn't just get better. They got a lot better. One of the young receivers might rise to a legit No. 2 receiving threat. As for the offensive line, well...Steven is silent on that.Campbell just has to show that he has the stuff of playmakers.Every fan watches the quarterback. He is the only one to handle the ball on every play and fans follow the ball. If something goes right, it has to be the quarterback. So if something goes wrong, it must be the quarterback. I think the offensive line is the source of 51 percent of the success or failure of every play. The center handles the ball on every play, too. But fans don't see it unless something goes wrong. The line is why very ordinary quarterbacks win Super Bowls. Ben Roethlisburger's regular season performance last year wasn't much better than Jason Campbell. The Steelers were losing the game at Fed-Ex until homeboy Byron Leftwich stepped in for the second half. The Steelers line struggled until late season.Eli Manning's 2007 regular season performance wasn't as good as Campbell's. Manning won the Super Bowl when a receiver caught a key pass with his helmet. The Giants line is still one of the strongest in the conference.Joe Gibbs said that the 1991 Hogs O-line was the best during his tenure with Washington. Because of that, strong-armed but pedestrian Mark Rypien quarterbacked the team to a win in Super Bowl 26.Football is the most team oriented of sports. Pro football is the most exacting for having all of the pieces fit. If you want a sport where one man makes a difference, you should be watching pro basketball, or playing Madden. Go take a look at that story on The OM Field. We'll be here when you get back.Become a fan of Hog Heaven on Facebook. Click here.Follow me on Twitter @SkinsHogHeaven.
