Reid hints to a possible Eagles trade before today's trading deadline.
With the trading deadline over at 4:00 p.m. Eastern today, the Philadelphia Eagles seem to be scrambling and searching to make a move which may help them avoid the travesty which befell them Sunday in Oakland against the Raiders.
Head coach Andy Reid made a modest suggestion during his Monday press conference, " We are keeping our eyes open." Andy said. "We are looking."
Myfoxphilly.com believes the trade will be aimed at strengthening the middle linebacker position. It seems that the Eagles believe that neither Omar Gaither, Joe Mays or Jeremiah Trotter can handle the duties assigned. The fact that Gaither sprained his foot during Sunday's game may have put the priority to trade for a top tier middle linebacker at the top of the Eagles to do list for today.
The Eagles do have bate to tempt other teams into a possible trade.
Trading Pieces for the Eagles to lore a possible trading partner.
- Michael Vick, QB - Number seven was signed by the Eagles out of nowhere. Many, including myself believed it was simply to do a favor for Goodell and Dungy. Because it still to this day hasn't paid off to have him on the team. In fact they have lost more by simply having him on the team. There are teams in the NFL who are in need of a quarterback like Michael Vick, The Browns, Titans, 49ers, Rams, Panthers to name a few. The problem is he is set to make five million next year so the team who may trade for him needs to be sure he will start for them.
- Kevin Curtis, WR - Just recently Curtis has become a real problem. He is injured more often then he on the field. Not to mention the fact of having Curtis gone will just help the growth of two other young receivers, Jeremy Maclin who looked great against the Bucs and Brandon Gibson who has amazing potential but due to being buried on the depth chart behind Curtis and Brown. With Curtis gone Maclin will takeover as starter and Gibson will actually get to play.
- Reggie Brown, WR - They do not need Brown. All he does is either not dress for games or when he does he warms the bench. He obviously pissed off Andy and the Eagles organization in some way during the 2008 season. Because since that time Reid has pretty much barred him from the majority of games.
- Draft picks - The Eagles can add picks to players to make the trade look more enticing for teams to bite on. Or if the Eagles really want a player the other team may be willing to take a high draft choice from the birds.
Trading Targets for the Eagles
- Shawn Merriman, LB -SD - He's a former All-Pro for the Chargers and is rumored to be on their trading block. The problem is he plays the 3-4 defense and the Eagles play the 4-3 and he has been plagued by injuries in recent years.
- Derrick Johnson, LB - KC - The Chiefs are currently playing the 3-4 and since then Johnson has been a flop. The Eagles could use him and he could use the Eagles 4-3 defense.
- Barrett Ruud, LB-TB - He is mostly successful in that Tampa-2 defense but he's a great tackler which the Eagles could use.
