The Celtics found out Sunday that Doc Rivers will not be their head coach this fall. They found out Monday that Brian Shaw will not be, either. Shaw, one of the NBA’s hottest head coaching commodities entering the offseason, has agreed to become the next coach of the Denver Nuggets, an NBA source told the Denver Post. Shaw, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant on Frank Vogel‘s staff in Indiana, reportedly confirmed the agreement in a text to USA Today’s Sam Amick. A first-round draft of the Celtics in 1988, Shaw played for seven NBA teams before retiring after the 2002-03 season. He was a part of five NBA championship teams with the Lakers — three as a player and two more as an assistant coach. The Denver job will be his first as a head coach. The Nuggets, who finished 57-25 this season (third in the Western Conference), fired head coach George Karl on June 6. Karl led the team to the postseason in each of his nine seasons, but advanced past the first round just once.
