The Rockies apparently want to add some pitching, and they’ve got their sights set on a couple of free-agent veterans. According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies are “aggressively pursuing” Derek Lowe and Carl Pavano, and they’d like to finalize a deal with another veteran this week. Lowe, who will always be held in high regard throughout the New England region, was released by the Indians last season and then picked up by the Yankees, who used the 39-year-old out of the bullpen. Lowe stated earlier this offseason that he has a desire to crack a starting rotation in 2013, so perhaps Colorado could be a fit. Lowe has struggled in recent years. He went 9-11 with a 5.11 ERA during his time with Cleveland and New York in 2012. He was once a reliable starter in the National League, though, so perhaps he regain a little bit of that form upon switching back over to the Senior Circuit. His ability to produce groundball outs could be an asset at the hitter-friendly Coors Field. Pavano, who just turned 37, was banged up in 2012 and started just 11 games. He went 2-5 with a 6.00 ERA for the Twins.
