A 3rd round draft pick, I think it is safe to say that rookie quarterback Russell Wilson outplayed whatever expectations the Seahawks may have had for him coming into the season. Leading his team to a berth into the NFC divisional playoff round, Wilson played like a seasoned veteran all season long. Thrusting himself directly into a heated Rookie of the Year award competition. It appears Wilson and his representatives know that he outplayed expectations as well. And they want to be compensated. According to Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com, representatives of Wilson reached out to the Seahawks insisting that “something be done” to his contract. However, there is just a little problem. According to the new CBA, no changes can be made to Wilson’s deal for at least a couple years. “A Rookie Contract for a Drafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s third contract year.” Could there be some loopholes found to possibly pacify Wilson and his reps? Sure. But on the surface, Wilson will not be cashing in this off-season unfortunately. Slated to make $$526,617 in 2013 and $662,434 in 2014, I’m sure the Seahawks will love the flexibility to build around their young signal caller until it is time to give him a raise. That time for Wilson unfortunately, is not now.
