Taking Bad Schotz:
Robert Griffin III
We have survived it. That’s right, as of two days ago Americans made it through their last Sunday without regular season NFL football for a long time. Normally, for Redskins fan like myself, there is not much to look forward too except for watching another year of losing football. Not to mention, the lost hope of getting better because they’ve already traded all of next years draft picks. However, this all changed after Mike Shanahan was hired as the new head coach. Shanahan instilled a new plan for building the team. Instead of overpaying for washed up free agents like Albert Haynesworth, Shanahan wanted to build the team through the NFL Draft. It all started when Trent Williams was drafted to help solidify an offensive line in need of help. The following year Ryan Kerrigan was drafted to add a pass rusher opposite Brian Orakpo. Then came the big one, the Redskins traded up to select the savior of the franchise, Robert Griffin III. The latter of the three is the reason why the Redskins will win the Super Bowl this year. Last year RGIII lit the NFL on fire with one of the best rookie seasons in the history of the league. By putting up numbers like a 102.4 passer rating and a 65.6 completion percentage while the Redskins became one of the best offenses in the league. The thing about RGIII is that he is a player unlike any the NFL has ever seen. Between his Olympic level athleticism, and an arm just as accurate as the elite quarterbacks in the league, he is an absolute nightmare for defensive coordinators. Under the guidance of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, the Redskins successfully brought the read-option offense to the NFL. They were able to do this because of the unique talent of RGIII. The read option has become successful because it is a way to neutralize great pass-rushing defensive ends. When RGIII reads the defense and hands the ball to Alfred Morris, he keeps the defensive end in check because of his threat on the outside. If the defensive end commits to stopping the run then RGIII pulls the ball and runs around him. RGIII also brings the added aspect of his arm. Last year he was one of the most accurate passers in the NFL, which is what makes him different from Michael Vick. The Redskins are only just tapping into the potential of RGIII. There is no telling what new wrinkles the offense will have in year two of the RGIII era. While RGIII is the main reason why the Redskins will be contenders this year, the team as a whole is better. The Redskins get Brian Orakpo back to be the pass-rusher opposite of Ryan Kerrigan. Both Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan are both 100% after playing last year with injuries. The Redskins also upgraded their biggest weakness in the offseason at defensive back when they drafted David Amerson to give them a big physical corner who can play press coverage. They also drafted the safety tandem of Phillip Thomas and Bacarri Rambo. While Thomas is out for the entire season, Rambo looks to bring a type of physicality back to the Redskins that has been missing since the death of Sean Taylor. Things are definitely on the up-and-up for this Redskins team. Between the upgraded roster and RGIII’s talent, this Redskins team certainly has DC sports fans excited for an NFL season for the first time in a long time. This team has Super Bowl potential. -King

He's been pretty good for weeks at not naming quarterback Robert Griffin III the starter for the Monday night season opener, but Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and the team are finally comfortable enough to make it official.
Great news for owners of Pierre Garcon, he has come out to say that his bothersome foot and toe issues are now 100 percent and he can go full speed. While this is great news for his fantasy owners, remember that this is coming from the player and not the medical people themselves.
