Qualifying at Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is complete. The Richard Petty Motorsports teams will line up for the start of the 500-mile event as follows:

18th — Aric Almirola, No. 43 Gwaltney Ford Fusion
20th — Marcos Ambrose, No. 9 DEWALT Ford Fusion

Forty-three cars took to the 2.66-mile oval for qualifying today.  Kasey Kahne topped the speed chart with a lap of 191.455 miles per hour and will start on the pole Sunday at Talladega.

Greg Biffle was the top qualifying Ford and will start fifth.

The 188-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event begins Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN, MRN Radio and SIRIUS/XM NASCAR Radio.

Ambrose’s Thoughts on Qualifying at Talladega: “It was fine.  We just didn’t have as much speed as we thought.  It really makes no difference here, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race with our DEWALT Ford.  It’s going to be fun.  We’re under so much pressure all the time at a lot of race tracks to try to get more out of the car during qualifying because the drivers make a big difference that it’s nice to come to a race track where qualifying for the drivers is a little easier.”

Almirola’s Thoughts on Qualifying at Talladega:  “The car drove fine.  I think that’s a really respectable lap.  All of these guys on this Gwaltney Ford Fusion worked really hard and I think our car is going to be really good in the race.  We don’t really have anything to lose, so we’re going to go out there and race hard all day and see what happens.”
