The Washington Redskins expect quarterback Robert Griffin III to return for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Griffin missed last weeks game against Cleveland after suffering a knee injury in a game against Baltimore on Dec. 9.
Redskins coach Mike Shannahan said that Griffin would start on Sunday “barring any setbacks.”
Prior to last weeks game against Cleveland the Redskins quarterback practiced on his own. Backup Kirk Cousins took all the first team repetitions and then played on Sunday. The Redskins were victorious last week in part because of the 329 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Redskins not planning to trade Cousins
Cousins’ performance has some suggesting that he be start for a team in 2013. Shannahan has cautioned that train of thought already.
“It doesn’t happen very often where you’ve got a chance to have a very special player that you [draft in the fourth round]. When you’re trying to build what we are with your football team, those aren’t the type of guys you trade.”
Currently the Redskins are in a three way tie for first place in the NFC East with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. Their week 17 game with Dallas could provide a playoff birth for one team.
