Ron Artest has told CBS Sports.com senior basketball writer Ken Berger that he will sign with the Lakers.
This has been rumored for a few days but I wasn't sure what to make of it. Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest didn't exactly get along during the season of the NBA playoffs, but this is perhaps the biggest sign that Kobe is more of a team player now than he has ever been.
It is also a bit strange because the Lakers apparently are set to let Trevor Ariza leave via free agency because they don't want to pay him more than the $5.6 million mid-level exception.
If it is true, Artest would bring a tough defensive game and a pretty good offensive one to Los Angeles, the reigning NBA champions.
But this is Ron Artest, after all, so we'll have to wait for the ink to dry on that contract before we get too excited about it.
