Well, the Mets who were in pursuit of starting pitching after the departure of R.A. Dickey have lost out on Francisco Liriano to the Pittsburgh Pirates for big bucks considering. The Mets were hoping to land the big lefty on a one year contract.. So now the Mets are continuing their ongoing search for a fifth starter. The Mets according to Marc Carig of New York Newsday are in pursuit of RHP Carl Pavano. He also tweets that he hears the Mets also have interest in Shawn Marcum and Chris Young. Free agent left-hander Joe Saunders is talking to the  Orioles, Mariners, and Padres according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The Mets have expressed interest in him, but again he is looking for a multi year contract.

Reigning Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey was recently traded to the Blue Jays, so he wrote a farewell message to Mets fans.

R.A. Dickey’s Knuckleball in Slow Motion Will Make You Pee Your Pants

R.A. Dickey has spent the last couple years with the Mets, and was recently traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.  Last year he recorded a record of 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA.  Not to shabby huh??  All of his success can be attributed to the deadly knuckle ball that he throws.  As far as I know he is the only guy throwing it in the MLB right now and the first since Tim Wakefield to see...

Amazin Mess: Leaving Dickey Out Of 2012 Highlights Video Is Insulting To All Of Us

R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award and 20 wins don’t count as  highlights as far as the official Mets 2012 Highlights video is concerned. That is how Andy Martino of the Daily News puts it  In a video posted this week on the Mets official website, and emailed to fans, the team sent along holiday wishes, and presented a brief montage of highlights from the 2012 season. It was all...

Forget You, RA Dickey

So if you had not heard by now, RA Dickey took the time to write a farewell message to the Mets fanbase recently. Being a humble and classy man, he was met with emotional goodbyes and people wishing him well. You would be hard pressed to find any fan out there had a negative opinion of Dickey. I have had some time to think about the whole thing…and I have come to a conclusion on...

Report: Pirates to sign LHP Liriano to two-year deal

Pitcher Francisco Liriano and the Pittsburgh Pirates have reached agreement on a two-year, $14 million contract with the Pirates, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Liriano, 29, split time between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox last season. He was traded to the White Sox in late July for two minor leaguers. The left-hander finished the 2012 season with a combined...

Report: Pirates agree to terms with Francisco Liriano

If you, like me, were waiting on the Pirates to do something this winter to address their rotation depth issues, it looks today like we're finally going to have some movement on that front. According to LaVelle Neal, the Pirates have agreed to terms with lefty Francisco Liriano on a two-year/$14 million deal that's contingent upon a physical. The PG's Michael Sanserino...

Liriano the Buc, and Three Starters on the Comeback Trail

Francisco Liriano has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract worth $12.75 million with the Pirates according to Jon Heyman. In less publicized news, a trio of once exciting pitchers agreed to minor-league contracts. Jeremy Bonderman signed a deal with the Mariners, Scott Kazmir signed with the Indians, and Rich Harden inked a deal with the Twins. None of the three pitchers pitched...

Pirates and Francisco Liriano Agree To Two-Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to improve their starting rotation in an effort to carry some of their first-half magic from the last two seasons through a full year. Francisco Liriano may be one of the pieces they've been missing. Then again, he may continue to struggle as he has since returning from Tommy John. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Pirates and...

Pirates to Sign Francisco Liriano

The Pittsburgh Pirates are set to sign Francisco Liriano, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The deal is a two year, $14 M deal. Liriano is coming off a season where he had a 5.34 ERA in 156.2 innings between Minnesota and the Chicago White Sox. That followed a year where he had a 5.09 ERA in 134.1 innings in Minnesota. The lefty had a breakout season...

First Pitch: Thoughts on Liriano, Hanrahan, the Rotation, and the Payroll

Some quick hits tonight in the aftermath of the Francisco Liriano deal. I was on the road most of the day today, and had a lot of time to think about the fallout from this deal. **I mentioned earlier that I felt the Francisco Liriano deal was a good risk for the Pirates to take. I was on TribLIVE Radio this afternoon further discussing the deal.  Liriano is a great gamble for the...

Bucs to sign Francisco Liriano

The Pirates made surprising headlines this morning when they agreed to a deal with free agent pitcher Francisco Liriano. They will pay him $14M over two years. Liriano, a 29-year-old lefty who spent his whole career with Minnesota before a midseason trade to the White Sox in 2012, is a pretty high-risk signing with the potential to be dominant but also the potential to be a disaster...

Coming to grips with the Mets’ 2013 payroll

Now that the R.A. Dickey and David Wright questions have been answered, the Mets can move on to other business.  But before we can get into specifics, let’s go back and look at one of the most fundamental questions there is as far as team building: What’s the available payroll for 2013? After last year, when fans were lied to repeatedly over what the actual payroll was going...

Links of the Day 12/20/12

Last links of the day ever? If that’s the case, then this was the last radio show ever. Of course, we’re all but certain to have seen the last NHL game ever, Mayan Apocalypse or not. Japanese shortstops: not entirely reliable. RA Dickey is 38. SCOREBOARD None…

Morning Grind: A Rocky Rock Bottom It Is

It has come to this, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Arizona Diamondbacks have outbid the Mets. The now pitching-deficient and long-time outfield void Mets had their sights on left-hander Francisco Liriano and outfielder Cody Ross, but lost them to the Pirates and Diamondbacks, respectively, who offered multi-year deals they wouldn’t have dreamt of giving. The Pirates, who were a feel...

Links of the Day 12/21/12

Today is the last Friday many of you will have to work all year. I better get these links right. If you like soccer and have free time, this is the game for you. I wouldn’t recommend buying it for anyone you would like to see again. (I have the 2012 version, and adore it) Francisco Liriano signed a 2 year deal with the Pirates.  Also, the Twins signed Rich Harden SCOREBOARD NHL...
