Slapping five and giving “propers” has turned into an absolute given following every foul shot in NBA and college basketball games.  Teammates are all about letting the foul shooter know how proud of them they are because they have made (or even missed) a 15 foot shot without any defenders in their face.

A strange twist to free throw congratulations has come about in recent seasons though.  Foul shooters have started seeking out propers from their teammates.  It’s come to the point where the league should outlaw it.  It’s similar to a hitter in baseball stepping out of the box to adjust his batting gloves after every pitch.

If the league doesn’t want to completely outlaw it, it could preach for players to follow Thomas Robinson’s lead.  The Sacramento rookie forward, the fifth overall pick 2012 NBA Draft, totally ignored the extension of propers from teammate Alex Young.  Young, an undrafted rookie from IUPUI, tried to give Robinson “five” after Robinson, from Kansas University, made a foul shot during an NBA Summer League game Saturday.

Robinson wanted absolutely no part of it. Young was left hanging, looking like an undrafted rookie from IUPUI.
