With their backs against the wall, needing a victory to keep their season alive, the reigning WFC failed to capitalize with men on base and as a result the New York Yankees are world champions. Pedro Martinez seemingly never had a chance against this potent Yankees line up, Hideki Matsui specifically. The Yanks got four off him early, tacked on a few more against the Phils pen, and that was enough for Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera.
The fielding for the Fightins' was uncharacteristically poor with Shane Victorino making a real bad play on a ball that preceded a Yanks scoring threat.
The Phillies lost the World Series and it completely and totally sucks. Perhaps the only thing you can really hold against this team -- a team that has taken us on such a magical run over the past two years -- is the way they went out tonight.
This team has character, heart, and took us on one of the most amazing runs this city has ever seen. It was an awfully fun ride. While I'm sad to see it come to an end, I'm thankful for the fun it's been.
