Saints-quarterback-drew
Drew Brees is one of the best players in the NFL currently, but that doesn't mean he thinks his line of work is for everyone, including his three sons, at least while they are young according to the Saints' quarterback. "At a certain age, I think it's appropriate. I think you can be too young to go out there and strap on a helmet," Brees told USA TODAY on Wednesday. Brees and his wife, Brittany, decided they would not allow any of their sons to play football before they are teenagers, because they don't believe letting them play is worth the risk of injury at a young age. "As a parent, you have to know what those risks are, and the protocols that have to take place when things happen," Brees said. "When you get a concussion, you should be out for a certain period of time. You should be taking the baseline test. You go back and take that test again, get cleared by medical professionals before you ever play. For a kid, it should be at leas...

Drew Brees won't let sons play football until they're older

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has made a fantastic living playing football. But that doesn't mean he is willing to let his three sons follow in his footsteps. In fact, Brees and his wife have already decided that they won't allow any of their sons to play football before they are teenagers. If they want to pick up pigskin by the time they are teenagers, they...

Proud Patriots defense bracing for Brees

New England's defense is in for its toughest test of the season Sunday, when quarterback Drew Brees leads the high-powered New Orleans Saints (5-0) into a highly anticipated clash with the Patriots (4-1). Brees has thrown for 1,722 yards, second only to Denver's Peyton Manning. ''He'll never stare down a receiver and throw it straight to him,'' New England...

Drew Brees Follows Steps of Tom Brady, Manning Brothers, Says He’ll Hold Kids Out of Football Until They’re Older

Concussion experts have advocated for years that kids shouldn’t play tackle football until high school, when their bodies are more developed and they can better absorb the hits the game hands out. That advice has gotten a lot of pushback from folks who think kids have to learn how to hit when they’re young to play well, though. They made their voices heard again this week after...

Brees is perfect against New England

Photo Credit: Chris Graythen/Getty Images There are some teams that some players just excel against, Drew Brees and the Patriots fall into that category. Brees has never lost in a match-up against the Patriots and in fact in their last meeting, he had a perfect 158.3 passer rating. While he has only beaten the Patriots once in a Saints uniform, Brees is no stranger to Tom Brady...

Saints' top RBs producing more in passing game

When Drew Brees has handed off to Pierre Thomas or Darren Sproles, it hasn't amounted to much lately. Yet when Brees has targeted either running back with short passes, it has produced first downs, touchdowns, sustained drives and victories for the unbeaten New Orleans Saints. Through five games, Thomas and Sproles have combined for nearly double the yards and three times more...

The Fab Five: NFL Power Rankings Week 6

Welcome to the latest edition of the “NFL Fab Five,” our look at the top five teams in pro football prior to the start of Week Six. As usual, the regular season is flying by and the playoffs will be here before we know it, leaving us wondering where the past few months have gone by mid-February. After last week’s action, only the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas...

Patriots Have Defining Test Against Saints’ Varsity-Level Offense of Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham

The 1 p.m. game on CBS last Sunday between the Patriots and the Bengals resembled football. But the 4:25 contest between the Broncos and Cowboys — now, that was football. Real football as the modern NFL knows it. Patriots fans who left their TVs on to see the transition between the three-and-out fest and the Peyton Manning-Tony Romo show should be very concerned. If the Patriots...

Wilfork, not Brees, Patriots' concern?

Photo Credit: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images While the Patriots come in as basically underdogs against the Saints, one thing that is not being underplayed is the Patriots inability to slow down the run this season. Ranking a horrid 23rd in the league (compared to last year being in the top 10) and while the Saints ranked 26th in the running game, the fear for many is that the Saints...

New Orleans Saints march to 5-0 at Soldier Field

The New Orleans Saints defeated the Chicago Bears (3-2) by a score of 26-18 and improved to 5-0. With a decisive victory on the road at Soldier Field, a venue where Saints quarterback Drew Brees had previously gone 0-4, New Orleans showed that they may be for real. Although they didn’t accumulate many yards, they […]The post New Orleans Saints march to 5-0 at Soldier Field by...

Saints RBs a Threat In Passing Game

New Orleans Saints running backs are becoming more involved in the passing game from Drew Brees.

Saints-Patriots matchup defined by mutual respect

Sean Payton and Drew Brees for years have referred to the Patriots as a model NFL franchise, and one worth emulating. During the buildup to New Orleans' visit to New England on Sunday, both clubs have showered one another with expressions of mutual respect. The praise appears genuine - there are similarities between the teams that don't seem all that coincidental - and Payton...

New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots: 3 Bold Predictions

Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans Saints travel to Foxborough on Sunday to take on Tom Brady, a finally healthy Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots.  Sean Payton's Saints go into this matchup as a one point underdog against Bill Belichick's Patriots.  These  coaches are two of the best in the game and with their excellent play calling abilities, this...

Week 5: Amazing NFL stats

The NFL is a passing league. Going back ten years to 2003, the NFL's top ten leading rushers averaged 86 yards per game. After five weeks of action in 2013, the top ten leading rushers are averaging 87.7 yards per game. JaMarcus Russell (2007) and Peyton Manning (1998) were both the number one overall selection in the NFL Draft. Russell started 25 games and ...

New Orleans Saints vs New England Patriots preview

The New Orleans Saints (5-0) travel to Foxboro to play the New England Patriots (4-1) at 4:25 ET. The most obvious headline is the battle between two of the best quarterback-coach combinations for the decade or so in Sean Payton and Drew Brees and Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The Brady vs Brees matchup has been pretty one sided as Brees has won every matchup he has had with Brady...

New Orleans Saints: 2013 Week 6 NFL Power Rankings (#3)

Last week: 3 (+0) Record: 5-0 I honestly feel like this team is as good as the Seahawks and Broncos. They are deadly at home and they proved last week they can play well on the road as well. They move the chains on 81% of opportunities and opponents move the chains on 68% of opportunities, a league leading differential. This week is their biggest test of the season in New England...
