Like them or not the Fighting Irish play top level competion each week. The transition to the NFL may not be that significant. He will be a project for sure but if he can develop he may be a solid player in years to come.
Young is listed at 6 feet 8 and 315 pounds. He was a four-year starter at Notre Dame but never lived up to the recruiting hype that surrounded him coming out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., high-school powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas, which produced Cowboys Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin among other players.
Young played on the right side at Notre Dame. In workouts at the Senior Bowl, he had significant problems in one-on-one pass-blocking drills. The Detroit staff handled Young's team, and Lions offensive-line coach George Yarno said he had a tendency to "lunge'' at pass rushers, which causes a loss of balance.
