Fox Sports:
Based off the performance of the teams of Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin during the season - and some of them from last year - we had some insight into how they would perform during the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
I'm a little more surprised that we don't have one or two more doing better than they are right now.
Most notably, as good as defending champion Tony Stewart was the first part of the season, it seemed he once again would be right in the middle of this and giving everybody a fit and that's not been the case.
That's really been kind of a surprise for me.
As to that top trio in the standings, I have been surprised that Brad's been able to get two wins in three races. Especially the win at Dover. That race surprised me.
But they were good all through the race and I've always contended if you could run in the top five, then it's a short step to Victory Lane. And that's what they did - they finally got that car dialed in after that first stop, and then he hung in there really tough in and around the top-five area the rest of the day and what happened was, when the strategy worked out the way it did, they were the heroes of the day.
You've got to put yourself in that position.
Two other teams had done that, those of Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin. Obviously, Brad and Paul Wolfe had done their homework just a little bit better, they were just a little bit quicker and at the right place at the right time to take advantage of the strategy.

Drivers deep in points go for it
When you look at how the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers raced at Talladega Superspeedway in the spring, who did we find atop the board?
Brad Keselowski won there in the spring, so you've got to believe that he and his points-leading Penske Racing team have got a race car that they've got confidence in. That should be capable of giving them an opportunity to once again maybe sweep...

NASCAR: Talladega could be where Jimmie Johnson loses 2012 title
Jimmie Johnson has been Mr. Consistency in the Chase thus far. He finished runner-up in the first two races and a solid fourth last week in Dover. Even with all those that consistency, he still trails Brad Keselowski by five points heading into this weekend’s Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Stewart's almost full race behind now
Everyone knew that the race at Dover International Speedway, unless something truly had changed, was going to be a huge obstacle for Tony Stewart. Honestly, for him to come out of there with a 20th-place finish last Sunday, that's really his best Dover finish in quite a while.
Now, though, the defending series champion finds himself well behind points leader Brad Keselowski...

Fantasy NASCAR: Talladega Edition
The two Talladega races are among the most impossible races to predict for fantasy NASCAR.
Like Daytona, the best driver or car doesn’t always win. To win or finish up front at restrictor plate tracks is largely a matter of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
With the pack racing two-by-two and sometimes three-by-three action, you could be the third or fourth row...
Which Chase drivers are looking forward to Talladega?
Talladega is a big, fast, scary race track. The 2.66-mile high banked oval in the middle of Alabama is one of the most feared tracks the series visits.
The restrictor plates make both races very exciting for fans, but sometimes dreaded by drivers. Often, it’s a crap shoot as to who will win as the odds are better to get caught up in the “big one” than to actually win or escape...

MPH or MPG?
You know folks, coming out of Dover this past weekend, the hot topic was once again fuel-mileage races.
It's just fascinating to me. Quite honestly, every lap of every race is a fuel-mileage race. The smart guys, the ones that figure it out, they start calculating fuel mileage long before they get to the end of the race - at least they should. If you can stretch your fuel a...
