ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will try to beat the Detroit Lions Sunday at Ford Field. In the meantime, hell be cheering for the Tigers in the World Series. Wilson described himself as family friends with Tigers ace Justin Verlander while growing up in Richmond, Va. Wilson, 23, was an infielder and played two seasons in the minor leagues with the Colorado Rockies organization before completing his college football career at Wisconsin last season. He's six years younger than Verlander. I grew up right near him, Wilson said Wednesday during a conference call with Detroit reporters. Im rooting for the Detroit Tigers. My brother (Harry) played with him all throughout middle school, high school, little league, all that stuff. He played with him and against him. I just remember Justin being so dedicated to baseball. I definitely admire that. Hes got a great family. His family is so supportive of him. Its pretty impressive. We used to hang out all the time. Wilson said he never got a chance to hit off of Verlander, but that his brother did. Wilson couldnt remember how his brother fared. Probably just as well. EXTRA POINTS Lions receiver Calvin Johnson was listed on the teams official report Wednesday with a "knee" injury. The extent was not disclosed, but it's not believed to be serious. Receiver Brian Robiskie was signed to take the roster spot of injured Nate Burleson. Robiskie, a second-round pick by Cleveland in 2009, was released by Jacksonville last month.

The 2012 NFL Season is reaching the midway point of the season and the NFL Playoffs are beginning to take shape. This is the time when we begin looking at the bigger picture of things in terms of wins and losses. Seattle's limited passing game tough to judge

Seattle: The Seahawks come off a hard fought and physical loss to the 49ers in Week 7 in a game that showed the Seahawks are pretty stout on defense. But the offense just doesn’t look ready for prime time. Russell Wilson once again didn’t get help from his receivers, as they dropped at least five passes during the game. This week, Wilson and the Seahawks get a Lions team that...

Seattle Seahawks: Hidden Jewels in the Emerald City

I must admit, I didn't have high expectations for the Seattle Seahawks entering the 2012 NFL season. The Seahawks were one of three also-rans (Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams are the other two teams) in the NFC West, which I thought would be the worst division in the league. The San Francisco 49ers (13-3 in 2011) would easily have their way with the rest of the teams and...
