The Leadoff: Quincy Stops By
Quincy Pondexter's smile and charismatic character along with his skill on the basketball court made him one of the most likable plaeyrs on the UW basketball team last year. I never had the chance to relay this funny story, so here goes. Two former Seattle Prep basketball players, current senior Kari Luttinen and Lindsey Brown (a graduate from last year) had an obsession with Quincy Pondexter (to put it mildly).
They requested or what some people might deem "creepily asked" the star player via their online video show, "The Kari and Lindsey Show," to come watch one of their basketball games. Quincy and Lindsey had a mutual acquaintance, and as a result, Quincy was told about the girls' request. What did he do for his two fans? He went to their basketball game against Cleveland.
Unfortunately the Seattle Prep girls varsity team was down 27-14 at half-time. Pondexter left (reasons for are uncertain). And then Prep stormed back to beat the eventual state champions by a score 54-50. While the majority of the student body was at the boys playoff game at the time, hardly anyone was at the girls game.
Perhaps, Pondexter's presecense motivated the girls to win, but I will and the girls will never know for sure. Nevertheless, Pondexter is an up-and-coming NBA player and this story is something Luttinen and Brown will remember for their entire lives.
