This is a response to Mike Silva’s piece on Saturday in which he raves about New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, and how if he helped the Giants win Super Bowl 46, could supplant Derek Jeter as New York’s sports darling and “catapult him to the top of New York sports.” This is not a hit piece on Elisha, either. I have the utmost respect for Manning, who has endured the typical criticism of an impatient (and terrible) New York fan base who demands a championship every season. And even though Eli helped lead the Giants to victory in Super Bowl 46 (his second Super Bowl win), neither he nor anybody else can supplant Jeter as New York’s sports hero. Jeter is at the top because the amount of World Series titles he has won (five, one more than Babe Ruth helped the Yankees win), and also the way he lives his life off the field – no scandals, is very charitable, clean living by being a homebody and avoiding the spectacle which is the press. Eli is the same type of person. Two titles, m...

Kurt Warner Calls Eli Manning 'Extremely Inconsistent,' Says He's Not a Hall of Famer

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner put together an illustrious career during his 12 years with the Rams, Cardinals and Giants. In fact, his four Pro Bowls, two MVP awards and 1999 Super Bowl MVP might one day land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Apparently, he doesn't feel Giants QB Eli Manning is worthy of that honor -- at least not yet. During an appearance Tuesday on...

Comparing Joe Flacco and Eli Manning through four NFL seasons

For the second time in five seasons, New York quarterback Eli Manning has led the Giants to the Super Bowl title -- not too shabby for a former first-round draft pick who was criticized often in his first four NFL seasons.

ETHRIDGE: Brady still missing Super Bowl win No. 4

Eli Manning looked a little bleary-eyed as he arrived for the Super Bowl MVP news conference on Monday morning. He said he had stayed up most of the night celebrating the New York Giants' 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots.

The day after: Super Bowl reads from every angle

On one hand Eli Manning earned his place among not just the present day’s NFL elite but among the great NFL quarterbacks of all time. While Tom Coughlin rose to the ranks of all-time great NFL coaches. On the other hand, Touchdown Tom Brady and The Hoodie literally and figuratively let another Super Bowl ring fall from their grasp. With Super Bowl XLVI now a day behind us, the...

New York Giants, Super Bowl champs!

There's no need for me to rehash all the ins and outs of last night's game. Sports Illustrated's website provides some great analysis and commentary if you're online, and ESPN is talking it to death if you're watching tv. All I will say is that I love my team, I love that they wanted to win, and I kinda love that it was the Patriots that they stuck it to. I will...

Bond between Giants' Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning getting stronger with time

Tom Coughlin has never won the NFL's Coach of the Year Award. Eli Manning has never been the league's MVP. With two Super Bowl victories in the past five seasons, though, they have emerged as the NFL's top coaching-quarterback tandem. And the best might be yet to come.
