Believe it or not, Sidney Crosby is about to enter his ninth season in the NHL. This number might seem a bit high due to the fact he has missed significant time over the last few years due to various injuries. Crosby skated in just 57 games in 2007-08, 41 games in 2010-11 and 22 in 2011-12. When you add in the time he missed last season with a broken jaw, injuries have been a fairly common occurrence.  Crosby has one goal for the 2013-14 season: Stay healthy.  The star forward discussed this topic with the Post-Gazette.  I'm excited to play a full season. I know 82 games, especially in an Olympic year when [the NHL schedule] is condensed, is a lot of hockey, but to go through all the different things in a full regular season, those challenges, all those things are exciting. The biggest thing, though, is to play a full season. Well said. No one is surprised to hear a player say he wants to stay healthy. Along with hoisting the Cup, that's the same goal every ...

Crosby didn't watch Stanley Cup Finals until Game 6 following sweep

It was clear just by looking at Sidney Crosby following the Bruins’ four-game sweep of his Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals that the superstar took it real hard. Crosby stood in front of his locker at TD Garden in the moments after his season ended answering questions but with a distant gaze in his eyes, almost like he was replaying every missed opportunity...

Niskanen realizes his days in Pittsburgh are numbered

Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen knows that a trade is imminent. With September upon us, the start of the NHL season is only weeks away.  Many teams are holding rookie showcase tournaments, and most training camps start in the next few days. Penguins History: Hardest Hitters

A while back I noticed that Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had asked the readers of his blog to list their toughest Penguins of all-time. With nothing in particular to write about (always a dangerous thing), I decided to compile my own list of toughest Penguins by category, starting with the Hardest Hitters. Here’s my top five body bangers in Pens history: 1. Brooks...

Sidney Crosby Thinks Zdeno Chara’s Punch ‘Crossed the Line,’ Saw It as Attempt to Shut Him Down

Sidney Crosby has more focus on him than any other player in the NHL, so it makes sense that just about every story having to do with Crosby gets overblown. His interaction with Zdeno Chara in the Eastern Conference finals is no different. It’s a story that won’t go away, and with Crosby and a host of NHL stars making the media rounds last week, it was bound to come up again...

James Neal: A Formula For Success by @chicksdighockey

Gary Roberts is revered in Pittsburgh.  To hear some Penguin fans talk you’d think he spent a large chunk of his career in the ‘Burgh. In reality, Roberts spent less than two seasons in the Penguin organization. In 2007, he was brought in to add a leadership presence to a young Penguins team which he did by helping them reach the playoffs for the first time in six years...

NHL veterans seek bounce-back performances

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has played subpar hockey during the last four postseasons. He playoff save percentage was .834 two years ago and .883 last season, when he yielded his starting job to Tomas Vokoun. But the Penguins are still banking on him to be one of the NHL’s elite netminders.“With a guy like Fleury, my decision to stick with him is, No. 1,...
