By Anthony Caruso III The Capital Sports Report Owner/Managing Editor/Sr. Writer Regan Smith has signed with JR Motorsports to drive the No. 5 car during the 2013 season. Smith has signed a full-time contract with JR Motorsports, which would allow him to drive the entire 2013 NASCAR Nationwide season. He has signed with JR Motorsports after being a free agent for a month. He was released from his duties with Furniture Row Racing in the Sprint Cup Series. After being released, he was replaced by Kurt Busch, who took over the No. 78 car. He took over the driving responsibilities on October 13th at Charlotte. These past few weeks, Smith filled in for Dale Earnhardt Jr in the Sprint Cup Series with the No. 88 car. Dale Jr was forced to miss the past two weeks after having a concussion. Dale Jr. is expected to return in the No. 88 car this week. “This is an extremely good opportunity for me,” Smith said in a team statement. “Dale Jr. and I first started talking about this several years ago, but the timing never matched up to where we could make it happen. Now it’s time. I’m happy to be a part of this organization. I don’t want to just win races. I want to be the team that dominates races and contends for the championship.” © 2007-2012 The Capital Sports Report. All rights reserved.
