Not sure exactly how ADO Den Haag forward Mike van Duinen and Roda JC captain Sanharib Malki of the Dutch league Eredivisie got their bootlaces tangled up, but they did, and the connection was so great that the pair weren’t able to get their shoes apart until Malki violently shook his foot free, causing van Duinen to fall to the pitch. The bizarre situation only got worse, as the Roda JC forward was given a straight red card for his actions, the most dire of which was not falling down while trying to get his boot untangled from van Duinen’s. Sorry, but even the world’s least knowledgeable soccer fan would know that is a cheap red card if ever there was one. Maybe even more surprising than Malki’s ejection was the fact that he didn’t flop when van Duinen hit the turf.
